Ok,
my very reliable 101 has had the lcd screen die. if i press on the screen i can still sometimes read the display but it is not very reliable and wastes time,
so i figure it's from leaving it in the dry pack and having the moisture inside the bag work it's way into the garmin unit and upset the lcd contacts.
plan is to open up the unit and resolder or apply some alfoil. problem is a can't get into the garmin unit.
anyone know how to pull the thing apart?
should i get out the trusty tungsten hack saw?
most LCD screens I've played with are just a pressure contact, don't think there's any resoldering needed. Think your theory of moisture is probably right.
How to get into it is a different matter, Dr Who's one at the moment, his sonic screwdriver would be handy!
Undo any screws that are holding it together (look in the battery compartment as well), then gently prise it apart with a screwdriver. There are usually a couple of clips around the perimeter of the two halves which snap together. Try prising the top half both forwards and backwards, as well as up, and you'll undo those clips.
Once apart, get some metho on a cotton bud, and clean the contacts for the LCD. Put it all back together, and bob's yer auntie!

From my memory back in the yacht chandlers, the Garmin units are sealed so there won't be any screws to undo. You'll probably have to cut the plastic welded join which will destroy the unit anyway. Sorry
Calm down Haggar i sent Gesty a message about it.No screws etc just stuck together, god knows how they can say they are waterproof
Mines a 201 so not sure about the battery compartment but there were no screws or plastic weld just glue
