The kiters may have just nudged the 500m record into the 50 knot range but something big and large is breathing down their necks. Hydroptere ran some 52 knot peaks today after being reconfigured in the yard over the last few weeks to sort out some handling problems. "After being hampered by rough seas yesterday and today they eventually got some runs in wind between 25 and 28 knots. In this relatively moderate wind, the Hydrofoil improves in its first Vmax (maximum speed) with 49.5 knots to finally realize a few hours later 52 knots in sustained wind of 40 knots."
Seems the speed record hunt is hotting up and the boats are back in the game!

Seems the flying boat peaked at 52.86 knots yesterday, first time a yacht has recorded speeds over 50 knots.

"The scientific team has stripped Yesterday evening measures recorded during the days of the browsing Fos bay on Wednesday they have revealed the exact speed of the peak in the 5th run: 52.86 knots.
Alain Thebault: "This is the first time a yacht crosses the wall wind, ie 50 knots. It
we now have to stabilize this speed of 500 meters! " The Mistral is now dropped,
will be ferried the Hydrofoil in day to Marseille."
