Hi!
Does anyone have any experience about the outhaul clew setting on Gaastra Vapors 2012, i.e. whether to keep it open or closed? What is supposed to be faster? Namely one hears different rumours that guys like Albeau keep it open on large sail sizes and closed on small on NP RSRs etc ...
Regards,
Marko
I run the Evo4's. Dad and i tried a few sessions with running the clue open and shut. Didn't notice that much difference. Probabaly better off keeping it closed and find whats best by adjusting the outhaul.
It does make the sail feel softer and maybe a little more responsive at times. So could be a benefit it chop. But flat water I would keep mine closed. Defiantly worth experimenting though as it could have a whole different feel on the vapors. I will defiantly try mine open again. Nearly video of late Antoine has had it open in every condition.
My impression was also that with the clew open the sail feels softer, more responsive to pumping, and with better control, as if the "S" function of the main batten above boom is not working properly if the clew is closed (too tight leech) ... But what about speed in like-for-like conditions?
A punters perspective.
Always had it closed on Evo III and IV until once I forgot to close it. Didnt notice the difference or even realise it was open until I came in.
Like vent screws, the designers and manufacturers put them there for a reason.
2013 Vapor has done away with them altogether and gone for a cut-out style clew. What does that tell you...?
I noticed some polish guys had actually had the "clew flap" removed...that was on formula sails though...Not very helpful, but goes to show that there is definitely a couple of different schools of thought to what is working.
