My Gw60 appears to be working fine, but it has just begun to take a very long time to download the data file from the device to the utility after I did a reboot when it played up recently. After a couple of hours sail, the utility said it had recorded over one million points using 99% of its capacity. is that an expected amount? Any ideas?

Just did a very short walk and log of only 86 points. Took 5min to download. Watch, cable and computer (been working perfectly and near-new) all seem to be ok. Got me stumped.... help!
Just tried downloading on another computer... same issue of slow download. So got to be watch or cable.
Sorry Mike, no good ideas here. ![]()
My downloads from the GW-60 have always been very slow when using Windows in emulation (VMware) on my MacBook. Fast on my ancient Win XP laptop.
But your test on another computer tend to rule out that side for the issue.
Are you quick clearing the log after every download?
That was going to be my question as well. The GW60 has lots of memory. I think it should last 2 or 3 battery recharges. So a full memory will take a while to download. How big was the 86point file?

Not sure. How do I tell?
ALSO, just noticed that after a quick clear of memory, when I used to click on download it told me there was no data... now, it tries to download and again, does so for ages. Funny as I have never had any real problem till now.
so do you get the notification, telling you memory was cleared successfully?
No idea how to do it in windoze but inthe file browser there should be the ability to see file size
Can't believe it, but I managed to work out how to update the firmware on my GW60. but no solution to the issues. Tomorrow will try my watch on mates computer with his cable... and his on my computer. see what happens. ![]()
the speedreader error, sort of indicates multiple files, but it can usually handle that by asking which file you want to open.
Is speedreader the latest version?
30mb is huge I'll see if I can find a comparable file and get back with it's length.
Nup nothing anywhere near that big, but 1.7mb is 80km and just over 3hrs recording.
Start: 26/02/2017 06:16:37.000 end: 26/02/2017 09:16:21.000.
So my calculator says that's 53hrs of recording, no wonder it's taking ages to download.
On your mate's computer, try doing a "delete log" before you try down loading.
Ok. Jayson has the my watch with the file from today. Took forever to download to his laptop. When put into Speedreader, this error message keeps coming up. Any ideas?

yes, you have multiple sessions on there, for some reason the log isn't clearing.
I'd try manually doing it from the watch.
That speadreader error may be fixed if you download the latest version.
When using the util are you getting the progress bar as the log clears?
Does it report a successful clearing?
How to clear the log is in the manual

I have been using the watch for a few years without any issue till recently. (Has to do a re-boot a couple of weeks back). When I delete log with the utility, the blue line goes across the progress bar. I even have tried to 'download log' again to make sure and I get the 'no data' pop up. Only downloaded my Speed-reader a few weeks ago, but will try updating it. Appreciate your input Decrepit. How do you clear manually on watch?
sorry mate I don't have the manual in this laptop, but it's available at the locosys website.
I do remember there's 2 different processes, 1 for the log data the other for the display. I have a feeling that if you press the adjust button when you first go into speed mode, you get the option to delete one or the other of them, probably the log, I think you delete the display by pressing the adjust button when looking at the 5x10 result
I've got the manual so will re-look. You have a couple of other hints in your post. Jayson has it at the moment trying to see what he can work out, but no joy yet.
yes it's a strange one alright, says its clearing the log, but there's still 30mb in there. Did Jason try clearing the log on his machine?
Yea. Exactly same outcomes as when I did. Regarding the manual, I have the 'quick start' one, about 24 pages. Is there another? Reason I ask is that you talk about 2 different processors and gave the ways of clearing each manually on the watch... haven't heard or seen this information before.
spell check problem process/processor.
Sorry I didn't put that very clearly. there's two memories to clear, the internal logger and the display memory.
they are both done with the adjust button, but you have to be in a different part of the menu for each.
Looks like the "file system" on the watch got corrupted when you had to reboot it. That's not a big surprise, the implementation is substandard (to phrase it nicely). As a result, the huge downloaded file contains some random garbage, which Speedreader does not like.
Changes are you've cleared the problem by deleting the data on the watch, since it now says "no data available". I would verify that everything is ok by turning the watch on for a short walk or drive, and downloading the data. That should be fast, and the number of points shown in the utility should be low.

Watch was taken on a short walk (2000pts) and same issue; slow download and multiple files. Is it worth another re-boot? I really have little to zero skills in this I.T. area. Note: ran watch yesterday windsurfing and the little 'logging' arrowhead at the 2 o'clock position on the face happily blinked away. The horizontal signal strength' line was right across screen also; All on-screen data was there but just the download slow and files that can't be read.
Sitting with Jayson now. We have tried clearing the watch using the utility and the pathway that Decrepit gave on the watch- both said that log was cleared. We then connected watch to utility and hit 'download log' it is doing that in an SBP file and taking about five minutes to get 50% of the way through. I think Boardsurfr is on the money; my reboot made something go nuts inside. (Technical term)

OK, I have one last idea. If the memory is full of junk that won't clear. try leaving it running for, (what did I say, 53hrs?) maybe go for 60hrs to make sure, that's several recharges of the battery. With any luck that will fill the memory with good data that can be deleted.
So it will take a few days and there's no guarantee it will work.
The best way, if anybody knows how? Is to reformat the memory, but I've no idea how you'd go about that.
Or try another firmware upgrade first, that will take less time
Have re-flashed firmware again this morning. Will try your other suggestion Decrepit... who knows, it may work. Have tried everything else.
I don't suppose it's still under warranty, because I've run out of ideas.
The strap and case is probably worth something to somebody if it's still usable.
Or somebody with a stuffed band may sell you the workings cheap?
Ok. I used it today (all on-water features seem to be working) and later connected it to computer, not through utility, but through -usb class~ ums.
I was able to get a file. This could not be read by Speedreader but could be by KA72. Showed a few less km then my Motion's file and had a position jump of many km.
I think I will just use it for on-water feedback and not worry about downloading it's data.
Got my Garmin 255 music too which has Andrew's datafields.
thank you all for your help
Mikey
My number one pet peeve with the GW-60 is that you have to clear data in TWO steps. I had to write a set of instructions to myself that I keep on my phone.
You have to clear data in TWO steps. TWO steps on the watch, or TWO steps in GWAR.
In GWAR, in the Log Data tab:
(1) click the Quick Clear button;
(2) Delete button for ALL.
On the watch:
(1) in the CLOCK MODE screen, press ADJUST, ADJUST (RESET DISP), and ADJUST (ALL) to delete all;
(2) in the ACT SPEED screen, click ADJUST, then ADJUST, DEL LOG? select YES to delete the log.
On my other watches, clearing data is done in ONE step.

Thanks Seglar. Had tried clearing data for download and on-face, using both utility and watch buttons. as I have said, have been using this watch for a couple of years without any issue...TILL THIS ONE.
UPDATE: used the watch yesterday and (drum roll) it seems to be back to normal, well almost!!! Downloaded through utility in about 15sec and although Speedreader wouldn't read file, KA72 did. Showed a couple of km less then my Motion but other info (2sec, 5x10sec etc) almost the same. Seems when I downloaded using - usb class~ ums pathway on watch the other day, it has resolved most of the issues. GO FIGURE! ![]()
