Hi guys,
anyone know approx how many kms sailing at normal slalom speed will the watch log / store, I know that battery life is more the issue but I can charge will sailing in water proof container.
Will there be be an issue if say I do 400 kms at Lake George?
Will watch have enough data storage at 5 hz. ??
cheers guys
my gw60 went flat after 180 ks ,so you would have to keep charging it , thats been one of the downfalls from day 1
I don't have the numbers in my head, but I can remember thinking when I checked it, "not enough for Kato's 24hrs, but enough for my 14hrs, if I'm ever inclined to try and beat my PB.
So you should be thinking about time recording, not distance covered.
Unless you stop recording every time you stop for a rest. 2m a Km is a good average over a few hrs, but it would be exceptional for 13+ hrs to do 400km. I think you need to allow for dawn to dusk, to take into account any minor hiccups.
Just had a look at my attempt. and the wind was light I was on big gear most of the day. and got this.
5Xhr of 21.33kts, so that's around 40km/hr, much less than 2min/km, closer to 1.5min/Km, while sailing.
EDIT, just found this in my comments, if it's any help.
total sailing time = 1hr 8min + 2hr 4min + 2hrs 16min + 3hrs = 8hrs 30min
average speed = 326km in 8.5 hrs = 38.35 kms/hr
incuded 145 gybes about 6 of them dropped, (hard to tell what was an intentional rest/adjustment stop, from a missed gybe turned into one)
Thanks guys
yes yr right , it's the time factor not kms.
I was thinking about averaging about 20 knots on lg = 37.5kms hr.
logging at 5 hz =5 per second
5x60x60x24 = 432 000 points
maths wrong again?? Seems to enough points?
Not planning for that long anyway just would hate to fill watch up.
Haveback up up as well
thanks guys
OK, now I see the method in your madness.
watch Max Points 1015808.
= 56.433777778 hours.
So tbwonder is right on the money, you'll be fine.
