Gday guys

I sailed yesterday without an SD card in the gps. Does anyone know how to transfer the files to SD card after the fact??? Ive tried everything but to no success.

Cheers

If you have not tried this already then the easiest way to get the data off the GPS is to insert a SD card into the GPS, turn the GPS on, go to the Data Logger entry in the menu, then scroll down to Save to Card. The data will then save to the card.

It depends a bit on what firmware version you have.

If you have the version with the windsurfing enhancements (with four numbers ending with a 'T') from Tom Chalko's website (www.mtbest.net), provided you have properly formatted the SD card, all you need to do is go the the MISC menu, select SAVE TO CARD, then SAVE ALL and you will have on the card the .SBP log, the .SPD file, which is a text file with you top genie max and 10 sec. speeds and some other file called TRK.BIN which I don't know how to use.

If you have the standard firmware you need to go to DATA LOGGER, then SAVE TO CARD and this will get you the .SBP log file.

It's best to format the SD card in the GT-31 first. It has a FAT16 format. Then proceed as above.

The next step is to connect the GPS to your computer and use the Navilink software to download the data.

I have not successfully connected my GT-31 to my Windows 7 computer, ie have Windows recognise it. I was able to do it on my older XP computer.

What exactly do you mean by "no success"?

Do you get any file at all on the card?
Does the gps recognise that the card is in there? In other words what happens when you hit "format card"? Or go for a run around the block with the card inserted?

Is your data logger turned on?

There's a few potential reasons you're not seeing the sbp file on the card.
! the gps doesn't recognise the card.
2 there's no file in the data logger.

1 can be because, of wrong card type, the GTs are quite fussy about what card you use, can't be any more than 2Gb and has to be the correct voltage, there's a list somewhere of compatible cards.
The other possibility is corroded contacts corroded/worn contacts in the socket, or a damaged card.

2 if it's a gt11 it won't record if you don't give it long enough to "find itself" before sailing. If it's a new gt31 the default for data logger seems to be off.
