Hi anyone know whats happening my gt31 isn't finding the card at all is it dead or is there a simple solution never got it wet and just over 2 years old.
Thanks for any help.....![]()
It seems to be a fairly common problem with the GTs. It has happened to my GT-11. The data pins are failing to connect with the data plates on the card. I got around it for a while by making a little hump out of glue above the plates on the card. This forced the card down onto the pins.
After a while the card reading function completely failed. So I'm using the data log function built into the GPS and Navilink. This solution works quite well and is reliable.
Also, if it's a new card check the capacity. The GT31 will only take certain sized cards or certain types, I forget which. Something to do with the card's voltage requirements
so mody u can upload to ka72 useing this data loggin/navi link thing .. mind explaining i havent be able to upload for 6 months
Yes you can
Yes its fairly straight forward to uploa-d data from a GT-11/GT31 using Navilink. Hook up your GPS to a Windows computer. Find the correct comms port. Then go to Navilink mode on the GPS. Then open up Navilink and then get the Navi data. Download the data to a folder on the computer.
Then you can upload the data to KA72 or whatever you want. If you don't clear the data from the GPS it will show more than one session of data.
Thanks is it possible to get the contacts fixed? Not gonna be sailing for a while so no bother not having it.![]()
Swaggs, Don't think so, Nebs had this problem, and he's the guru, and couldn't get a reliable fix.
He did the pack out thing, which improved it for a while. He also looked at replacing the card socket, but it's too hard to get at.
If it's actual corrosion of contacts and not lack of tension, I guess it may be possible to clean them very carefully, not sure how but.
There's a remote chance it's the card contacts, check they're nice and shiny or try another card.
Nicko, as Moby says, but you have to install the navilink software off the CD on to the computer first, and it's a different version of the software for GT11 and Gt31
The other downside is the internal data logger is limited to about 7.5hrs, so if you want to do a very long distance, you need a laptop in the car to download to around half way.
I have been doing some distance today and my data logger will only hold about 4.5 hours of data so be careful if you have no card!
The firmware is fairly recent on my unit I remember the old firmware held much more data inside the gt31.
Would it be possible if going for distance to set the logger to 2sec, then it will hold 9hours?
Shame others on the team were not out for 4.5 hours ;-)
I had this trouble with my new gt 31. After much help from everybody on the forum I contacted locosys and I sent it away to be fixed. It took about 3 weeks. It has been working perfectly since then. It was under warranty so it didn't cost me anything.
Thanks for all the info but just turned it on and screen is not working now!
So gonna have to get a new one anyway.....![]()
