guys, need your advice.

just had my 1st virgin session with GT-11.
had my SD card into it.

when i retrieve it from the SD card, the files are in Text files.

i wish to convert it to KML (to see with Google earth) or GPX file.

now, this is where the problem is, i'm stuck.
i can't convert my txt files into neither KML or GPX.

i have tried GPSbabel and Navilink II (from Locosys), but so far no good.
NavilinkII only recognise SBN files for conversion...

maybe i miss something here, i hope gurus here can help me...
if possible, i can send u my targeted txt file for u to check it out.

a big thank you in advance

you could use gpsresults ( www.gps-speed.com ) which has a function that puts your track on google earth automatically with a mouse click.

That seems strange Meng. As far as I understand it the only types of file that are written to the SD card are .nmea or .sbn. If you save the data logger file to the card it has the extension .sbp. Only the Speed Genie saved speeds are able to be downloaded with Navilink II as a text file but these are not on the SD card.

It may be that your .nmea files are associated with a text editor and so they open in that when you double click on them.

Check your forum messages. :-)

Sounds like you're using very old firmware, the original firmware used to write to the card in .txt files, try downloading the latest firmware from here.
http://mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT-11.htm

Then follow the instructions on that site.

The internal data logger will then make .sbp files that navilink 11 will convert for you.
And the SD card will have .sbn files that realspeed can convert to .gpx

Ok I just got my GT-11 and have set it up as per the instructions on the GPS Challenge site and it all seems to be working ok.
What I want to know is how long will it record for with a 1gb SD card? Seeing as I seem to spend quite a few hours on the water in a session I would hate to lose a good run just because it ran out of memory.

Have to say though I am not so sure I will be posting times for a while yet... would be a tad embarasing having low numbers next to everyone else.
Would low numbers pull the rest of the team down in the points?

One of the blokes told me that the 2gb SD card i bought will give me like a couple months continuous sailing or something stupid like that. I don't think you will be running out of memory to quickly, even with a 1gh card.

You should just post your times aswell. I havne no idea WHAT i'm going to be like my first go, but im signed up and ready to post no matter how slow i am. It's not an embarrasing thing at all i don't reckon. Should just get some times up and work on them.

Yep Bub's is right on the money, I usually leave the whole months tracks on my 1gb card, before deleting them, and it hardly uses any of it. one of my longer sessions was about 4hrs and that had a file size of 1.2mb, so multiply 4hrs by about 800 and you have the record time of your card.
As long as it's recording in .SBN format.

And the way the challenge scores, is the top 2 in each division, so a low score doesn't drag the team backwards, but gives you the opportunity to contribute in things like distance, and perhaps the 1hr until your speeds match your mates.

Hey OceanBlue, don't feel bad about being slow!

With Hardie, Elmo, Sam and Decrepit in my team I have no chance on contributing with 2sec, 5x10, Nautical mile, 1hour, or alphas...

But distance is my baby

dear gurus, i have managed to 'solve' it.
