Its been lying around unused for 12 months. Now it wont charge.
How can I fix it?
Li-ion batteries should be left half charged state for best shelf life. Over/under charging kills them. Sometimes the fuel gauge gets out of wack but does not sound like this in your case (it is there to stop over charging which can lead to vigorous fire).
Sounds like you may need a new battery. Mine blew up like a balloon, which scared me as Lithium fires are nothing to sneeze at. I replaced mine with another battery and all is OK but be warned they stick the battery to the case to stop it moving around. You definitely don't want to puncture the ally skin of the battery getting it out.
I have heard of people sending their GT31 back to Taiwan for servicing. No idea of price but bound to be cheaper than getting a new GT31. A new battery is about $25 locally but you will have difficulty finding the right type. Seen them on internet for about half that (but postage may add as much) and no idea if still available.
