Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows if the Garmin etrex 20 would be an acceptable unit to use in gpsteamchallenge comp ? I have seen a list of approved units but mine is not on there....
anyone else use this type?
I am just a newbie so would love some feed back
Thanks ![]()
Its acceptable for the fun rankings, but if you are going for a record then you need the recommended units - gt31 x 2 wih loads of offical protocol happening such as others copying your data after the record run etc....details are on there.
Most of us do the fun rankings and nothing more. It will also be acceptable on my (and a couple of friends) new site coming soon......spot focussed not rider focussed allowing for mini events at what ever location you choose, or competitions over a month/year. Options for weekend warriors to filter out those who can sail when the wind blows in the week etc.....oh.....and freeride/wave kit speed ladders......its all very close to completion, we have full backing from GPSSS and Dylan has sorted uploading from his site for us. Basically it will be local ladders for local sailors
Hey guys thanks for the speedy reply, think I will just stick to my gps untill i am pulling some better numbers and then switch to GT-31 like most ppl are running...
Good to see other ppl trying to get some other sites up and running for speed sailing, I have just started windsurfing but think it (speed sailing) is growing and fast. Keep us posted if you get the site completed...
Seems that even wave sailors are crossing over for the challenge the gps provides.
Thanks again.....
Cheers.
Ours is to be kept as simple as possible, just friendly competition that you can join with any kit. It will have categories the same as the others, inlcuding 500m. We will be launching it for Portland Harbour and Brog Lake in the UK for the first few weeks to iron out any bugs, then it will go live to the rest of the UK and wider hopefully.
We will want a spot ambassador to organise and get people up and running with it, a bit like team captains in GPSTC, somthing that you could put a lot of effort into or very little.
It is only basically like a shop speed ladder, but with database filters. Each spot will be a 'private club' so the scores are not published online in the public domain which I know puts some people off posting. Free to join and hopefully will add a stepping stone for newbies to join in and get them as addicted as the rest of us....
More news will be announced soon. The database design has taken a good couple of months work outside work, this is almost at completion now. The website design will take minutes to complete in comparrison. It is designed to fill a gap that we think exists, and hopefully promote some more feindly competition.
