Its still in the previous owners name so I need to change that too.
Didn't work as there was no file for todays session to save..?
Now I've manually deleted all the files off the card by going into the upload browse box - highlighting them and deleting them so now the card is empty..I hope I haven't stuffed anything up.
I assume you have to save the session to the card before you turn the GPS off or you loose everything?
Also how do I bring up all my sessions and is there anyway I can manually put in the top speed - I got 22.5 in chop today and would like to have a record..

Sue, there are 2 memories in the GPS, the sd card and the internal data logger.
Normally both are written to. Neither is "volatile storage" so you don't need to save anything before you turn off.

But there are warnings about removing the card with the GPS on, this can destroy data.

If for some reason the card wasn't written to, you can transfer the file from the internal data logger to the card by "saving to card".
It takes a while, you have to wait for the little black line to run across the screen, then I think you get a success message.
The only problem with this is that it's a continuous file, unlike the data saved to card, it doesn't start a new file every time the unit is turned on.
It holds the latest 7hrs of data, so it's probably got more than one session on it. I'm not quite sure how KA72 handles this.

If there is also no data in the internal data logger it's possibly because you didn't have a good satellite fix, in the case of a GT31 this is usually due to having the gps under a wetsuit or similar. If a GT11 it could also be that you didn't let it sit still long enough to get a fix, once it's moving the GT11 often can't find itself.

You can't enter the GPS top speed into the 2sec GTC division as the displayed speed is over some fraction of a second, you could enter it in the comments though.
If you go to "my data" that will show all your teams sessions and let you download a csv file of your own postings.
You change the name in the "settings" menu you scroll thru the alphabet with the joy stick.

Ok I changed the name but couldnt work out how to delete characters.I saved data to the card and it appears to have only picked up me sitting at the computer.I turned the GPS on early when I went sailing and it read because I read one speed but I can't seem to find it to upload?
How do I delete an upload from KA 72? Its got 2kts and my home town..

Just login and edit your post. If you can't your team captain will be able to do it for you.

Sue, the last time I saw a problem like yours, somebody had "played" with the gps settings and turned the data logger off. Make sure in "Data Logger" Interval is set to 1sec, and in "Memory Card" Log Switch is either ON or ON FIX , NMEA ITEMS is set to SBN 1sec and FILE SIZE is set to "CARD SIZE".

Thanks..All checked and ok. Our Team leader said maybe the card wasn't inserted properly so I will check before I sail next time. It's hard for me to read anything when it's on my arm ,in a pouch and the glasses I have on are only for long distance..

Yeah sorry we couldn't get it to work sue. Not sure why it wasn't still on the GPS memory but might have been wiped inadvertently.

That is why people carry two units on the big days. Would be a bummer to crack a big speed then find out the GPS had failed. Plus you need two to qualify for records.

It was a pretty crap session anyway what with the health issues . I probably only did about 4kms so its not that important.I haven't sailed in those type of conditions since I got a GPS so I was just interested to see what speeds I do.

People post odd stuff like that all the time. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not short of disk space.

If you want the file gone for privacy reasons, email me the details (email address is all over the website) and I will remove it (location and date will help me pinpoint the file.) There is very little personally identifiable information on the site, particularly after the download period has elapsed for anonymous files.

Dylan.

Yes, when you upload the file, there is a dropdown for file activity type, and you can choose one of those other activities.

Of course, at the moment it still calculates the divisions all in knots and with a windsurfing focus. If you want to know your walking Alpha, though, it is still interesting, and at least categorizing files this way makes it easier to search for them.

When you are able to organize your own files, you will be able to apply different default measurements to different types of files (and different units too, I suppose, since knots is not necessarily always the best way to measure speed!)

Had the same problem today - today's file is not on the card. Did a test walk around the house and that isn't on it either.
Haven't fiddled with the gps since I got it 3 years ago, and can't find the manual.

So, how do I get to the data logger?

it's near the end of the main menu, so scroll backwards from "sat signal", misc, settings, navilink, alert, next one should be "Data Logger", click on it. You should then see Interval, Min speed, and "save to card", select save to card and click, a progress bar should then be displayed as the logger data is transferred to the card. Wait until this successfully completes, turn off unit, and remove card.

Umm, trying that it comes up with an instant "FAIL".
I checked the settings Decrepit mentions earlier in this thread are ok.
Could my SD card be buggered? (the unit was "finding" the card)
Any other theories?
Cheers

Actually, just tried again, and when I turned it on it beeped "card found" then "card locked". Is that normal? (don't usually look at it)

EDIT: just found this from Nebbs in a thread discussing this (good old search engine)
"It's almost certainly the little sensor that detects the position of the card slider. That sensor is buried deep within your GT-31, you'll have to pull it to bits to get to it. Good luck "

That sucks.

EDIT: or does it? My wife suggested I pull the card out and blow into the card slot. Ha, what are the chances that would work?
It worked. Normality has resumed.

EDIT: well... worked once - did a lap of the house and the track was there. Put the card back in to try and write today's session to it, and back to the "card locked" message. Tried a few dozen times, same message.
sigh, tomorrow's problem now.

the card locked thing could be as simple as it is actually locked, some cards have like a little switch on the side mine is on the left side near the top maybe its been bumped to the lock position, mine is in the up position, i think its there so it can be locked so your kids cant wipe out yopur pics etc.

Thanks guys, yes the card has a locking switch, and it was not fully in the on position. DOH, never noticed it before. Must have slid it a bit inserting it into the GPS.
Lesson from this is to keep an eye on it when you turn it on, to make sure you don't get the "card locked" message, which flashes up for a nano second.
Cheers

My GT-31 is currently configured so that it only writes to the internal data logger. After a session, I have to 'save to card' prior to removing the card and downloading to KA72. When I reisert the card and before the next session, I clear the internal data logger. The GPS then records the new session on the internal data logger. When I save this new session to the sd card it creates a new file on the sd card.

How do you configure the GT-31 to write to both the internal data logger and the sd card at the same time?

Got to "Memory card" it's in the main menu just after "data logger" first item in it's menu is "LOG SWITCH" set that to either "on" or "on-fix"
On means it's recording all the time, on fix means it only records when the unit has a satellite fix. There's 2 schools of thoughts on this, one says recording dropping in and out creates errors, the other says that recording dodgy data creates errors. I'm not sure about this but my unit is set to "on fix".
min speed I have set to off.
NMEA items should be set to, "SBN 1sec"

One of our members is a bit GPS challenged so HoppyBob and myself encouraged him to...
Just turn the GPs on and lock the keys..
When he finishes sailing, unlock it and turn it off...
When he gets home, take out the card and upload the last file ...

Mind you, sometimes he drives home with it turned on and sometimes he locks the card
when inserting it.....LG....Lifes Good!!! (when you get a few laughs
