Is the GPS TEAM CHALLENGE for all windsports or strictly windsurfing? Wing dings or kites or Wind foiling????
As far as i know its windsurfing, windfoiling and wing ding, but when you post there is no way to categorize your sport. Kites not allowed
When did wing dings get included? Dont see anything in the rules or guidelines?
Ages ago.
The GPSTC Advisory Panel agreed to allow Winging sessions to be posted from 26/9/23 onwards.
Was this due to the amount of windsurfers transitioning to Wing Dings?
I take it any questions to GPSTC are done via Seabreeze Forums and not the contact details on GPSTC?
Don't expect the GPSTC to operate like a professional commercial operation.
It's run by volunteers with their own stuff to do.
It's was given to us free, to enjoy as a windsurfing forum, there was never any guarantee to keep the website uptodate
Here is a link to the original Seabreeze discussion.

From memory there was an announcement on GPSTC on the front page at the time.
I agree though the "Rules" and "Guides" page on GPSTC are hopelessly out of date.

Very much aware of what you stated. What Im suggesting is there is quite a number of us willing to contribute $ ( including me) towards GPSTC to update it. Understand there is a few hurdles with this. Im at the stage where I been using the site for a long time like a lot of others and there some responsibilty from all who use it to help keep it updated or assist in kerping it updated in any way we can help?
Be interesting to see what the thoughts are from everyone and the "co-owners etc".
I think everyone would like to see it brought up to date, and a few have tried.
access is the problem.

So flogging a dead horse? Time for a Seabreeze version of GPSTC???
Ages ago? Yeah right
Yep...9-23 Thanks for the dates admin ![]()
Good to see you were up to date! Lucky your mate from admin knew.

Access - is the "Advisory Panel" able to expand on it?
Free to use but no control?
This seems to be the only place GPSTC responds to and not via their contact details on the site. Somethings not right about this.
The advisory panel has no access to the website code.
I'm no longer on the advisory panel, I resigned once I turned 80, so I have no uptodate info, as to who and how the website contact button is answered.
Moz good on you for brining this topic up. Your questions and thoughts are very valid and correct.
In general terms the majority of people have your thoughts and feelings.
Its seems that the current GPSTC website is so out of date and written in such a way it's unserviceable or upgradable. So why nothing ever happens with it.
The only way to go forward is as you elude to is starting an entire new platform.

AusMoz if you have not not already tried this, you could possibly look at putting your group willing to contribute $ together and approach Dylan from KA72 to develop something as he already collects most session data form GTSTC users. I read your frustration so this may be worth a shot ![]()
I think it is a miracle and a great gift to the community that this site has operated FREE for so many years. A lot of people have complained about some aspects of it but no one has been able to build an alternative. It is not enough to find the problems, you have to find the solution as well
Definitely flogging a dead horse expecting any sort of progress with GPSTC. Either accept it as it is or move on. I'd love to see something similar (wouldn't need to be teams based) on KA72, because upload and posting could be a one stop shop. I don't think the owner of this site is interested either. New blood is needed. Waterspeed is another different option and is actively developing, but you pay. In my opinion what sets GPSTC above the others is the chat function, it builds the comradery and community.
I came across this post on the GPS-Speedsurfing forum and thought it could be a great chance for some collaboration. The folks behind it seem really keen to connect and work together on improving speeds, sharing data, and developing ideas. If you're interested, it might be worth getting in touch with them to see how you can team up or exchange insights.Could be a great way to strengthen the community and learn from each other.

"We are happy to announce the upcoming staged launch of our next-generation GPS-Speedsurfing platform. This new platform represents a major advancement in technology, providing a modern, scalable framework that ensures long-term reliability and enables the introduction of innovative features. The initial stage of the rollout will focus on gps-kitesurfing.com, kite, foil, and wing foil disciplines. Following a period of testing and community feedback, the full gps-speedsurfing.com platform will be deployed, scheduled for completion before December 1st.We anticipate minor technical adjustments during the first stage and are confident that, with the active support of our community, issues can be quickly identified and resolved. We invite users, partners, and enthusiasts to follow our forum and social channels for the latest updates. This launch marks a significant step forward in providing a robust, future-proof platform for the global speedsurfing community."
Some people on this forum, really dont have any common-sense. How much effort do you think it takes, to build a custom website that does all the things that the apps and websites do (eg: gps-speedsuring.com / gpsteamchallenge.com.au / KA72 / Speedreader / and so on ) ?
A website like GPSTC or an app like SpeedReader, will take about $50k-100k (a few weeks/months work), plus some yearly running costs, plus some regular maintenance costs. (We can argue separately if that dollar amount is accurate - lets just say for the sake of discussion that it is close enough.)
This cost isn't big by commercial standards, but it is for a low/no funded community. Most of these apps/websites are done because someone wanted to scratch an itch.
Common-sense should tell you -> if you aren't a coder/programmer, then you have no business calling people out for them wanting to have a life outside of your expectations.
The question of "can we pay" -> sure can... if _everyone_ whom is listed in GPSTC paid $50 initially, then ongoing $50 per year, then that would work. If only say the top-200 paid up, then we are looking at about $300 each.
Alternatively --> if you have the coding skill and you are serious about supporting the community, then please do let people know.
As for the "flogging a dead horse" and other nasty comments -> get off your high-horse. You aren't helping any cause. It does howeever show that you are someone whom isn't worth having any type of discussion.

Ease up there Mathew! Take your medication and calm down. Your getting yourself worked up too easily. Red Mist!
We are aware your ASD - as previously advised by your friends via phone call to me previously.
You know where I live, you know where I sail. Im very approachable to discuss this in person - dont be scared I wont bite.

I gather my ranting isn't going well .... indeed we have discussed a few topics in real-life, am keen to have any discussion about windsurfing topics, not keen on criticising people whom volunteer their time.
The context of the thread was -> was/is dinging included in the GPSTC, but delved into some personal-attacks on GPSTC volunteers.
If there is someone that truely has sufficient time and PHP skill to get the gpstc website updated, then it isn't impossible to get that level of access organised.

Yes mate theres been some conversations from vehicles being stolen/ found to GPS devices. ![]()
Ive had a discussion with GPSTC which was more than productive and understanding. Seems we shared a lot of common areas of frustraton.
Originally GPSTC was windsurfing and lot of us are happy with it. I cant always keep my finger of the pulse of GPSTC changes - i have a few other lives other than windsurfing - im not even close to retirement yet.
Just my opinion- pretty happy to see GPSTC open to other categories like wing dings kites etc.
Not kites. To different from windsurfing . They can post happily on gpsss as can you if you want something different.

Ive looked at it a few times but it looks like its for unique individuals not teams- might suit you more than you think.
