Hi everyone just looking for some advice.
Lately i had some great sails and improved HEAPS. I'm starting to move prity quick now (i think) and was thinking that a GPS would be a good idea, quite interesting and a bit of fun. Someone has suggested the GT-11 as a good unit and i was just looking for some more advice and other types that might work well.
I'm also looking to use the GPS speed sailing site and also the GPS team challenge (if anyone will take me into a team) so would like it to run through the computer aswell. Therefore an accurate one that both will accept would be good.
Now also what kind of price range am i looking at and also where abouts can i get them. Are there online sites which are a good option to get them cheaply or maybe ebay? Is there a second hand market for them at all, keeping in mind that i don't really want to be stuck with old technology?
Would appriciate some help here thanks.
Cheers
Bubs
Bubs, the main item we are all using is the NAVi GT-11. Not necessary to get the blue tooth model. These items are (to date anyway) the most popular for usage and price.
Unless you have a shop in SA that sells them as a kit, this chap at Boards Crazy in Qld supplies full kit ready to go and backs his product (if you have any issues) 100%
Simon is also involved in the GPS fun so understands what we are using and requiring.
Hope this helps

GPS = NAVI GT11
Teams, either start one up yourself, or I'll ask around, you just need one more person to make a team.
Hi i was wondering how much a GT-11 with suitable aqua pack and SD card would be at Boards Crazy if anyone around could help me out. Can they post from there to SA aswell? I don't think there will be very much of a market for them here as i can only think of one windsurfing store that i think will have them.
I see SurfSailAustralia are selling units with Apacer 1gb SD cards. Though it has been mentioned on various gps forums and Locosys themselves warn of this SSA are probably unaware that the Navi doesn't work properly with cards that are not 2.7-2.8 volts. The Apacer card is 3.3V.
From MTbest.net
A. Chosing SD card.
Some brands/sizes of SD cards are not compatible with Navi/GT11. Before purchasing SD card check its specifications and make sure that the card is specified to work with 2.7V power supply. GT11 supplies 2.8V to SD card. Some SD cards require 3.3V and won't work with GT11. Check the readme.txt file to see which cards you should avoid and which cards were found to work fine. Make the test described in section C1d.

Troubleshooting
The NaviGPS expects a FAT-16 file system so don't expect cards with more than 2GB to work.
The NaviGPS is a bit fussy about the formatting of the file system. If you have problems, try reformatting the card using the NaviGPS's built-in memory card format command. Cards formatted using Linux seem to be more prone to problems (try formatting the entire card without a partition table because that's how the NaviGPS formats it).
There have been a couple of reported cases where the unit has appeared to work fine, but has not created any track log files. Try running chkdsk. The files might be there but just not visible in the file system directory.
As the data on the SD card is just NMEA ASCII text, it can be converted to GPX (or any other format) with GPSBabel.
Some PDAs running Windows Mobile will automatically wipe a NaviGPS formatted SD card on insertion, no questions asked. Test this before you have important data (the above comment about extracting data in Linux will get it back again). The issue with this may be using a card that's not seen a Windows environment before it's used. If a card is used in a Windows Mobile PDA and then put back in the NaviGPS, all appears to be fine and you don't appear to lose your data when it's next inserted in the PDA. Someone should verify this is the case and add a comment here please.
Simon at Board Crazy in QLD now has some cheaper GTs due to warranty repairs. I am about to get one myself. Not sure of the price, but drop him a line or you cna contact him via email from his website. www.wind-surf.com.au
