Other states can do their own initiatives!!

OK for all you doubters or people interested in having a go, WE'll set up a day where you can wear one of the latest GPS's, get you on some speed gear and you can just get a taste for it!!

Yesterday was one one of the best days windsurfing in my 25 years in this great sport, and I've had the most incredible windsurfing life, it was the most exhilirating feeling you can imagine, I don't have a better memory, probably better than Sandy Point because so much scarier, and more difficult, flying over chop at high speed , getting airborne and controlling it, you really know you're alive!! (getting involved in gps-speedsailing, getting the right equipment, and great advice from people like Slowboat, means that at 47 a middleaged man can have the most exhilirating feeling of his life) It is one of life's great thrills!!!!!

Anyone interested, can't set a date coz we need conditions, anyone up for it?

Nothing like going downwind at speed, getting airborne, and looking for a safe landing hey Hards
The board doing a little dance on landing sure gets the heart rate up also

Not a bad idea Hardie, I could be easily tempted in having a run. Haven't done the GPS thingy on go fast gear before, sounds like a demo day coming up .

In case you are wondering if it is for you I would encourage you to have a go. I started with the GPS recently: I love it
It allows me to see what works well, has encouraged me to improve because I want to beat my previous personal bests and has introduced me to a wider (and very encouraging/ friendly/ inclusive) group of sailors from many different backgrounds and age groups.
I have been sailing (not always very successfully but always with a grin on my face) for many years: this has really re-invigorated me.

So have a go. You do not have to get all new kit (I and many of the others I have met have not), you do not have to think about competing against others if you do not want to (I do it to improve my sailing) and it is great fun. What is more the suggestion is a free trial. How far wrong can you go with that?

No matter whether you are a seasoned windsurfer or relatively new to the sport this is great

p.s. maybe I look at my ranking in the individual tables a bit!

I was getting spoilt with windsurfing and my spark for it was dwindleing I could hardly be bothered unless it was logo high plus and 20plus knots.Read about the gps scene here and thought i would give it a go as a flat water ,no waves day alternative.Well..i have an ulcer on my foot you could fit 2 bucks of change in and found some new muscles i didn't know i had.But more importantly i have found i'm constantly looking at the trees....the bug is back!!!!

Doing both wave and speed sailing is tops.My wind range has doubled,so my sailing time has doubled and so has the stoke!!!!

Agreed. I wish GPSes were around 10 years ago when I started drifting out of windsurfing and was doing other things with my time. Maybe its for the best as I got a degree, got married, ran a good business and made good money in those lost years.

We should run a similar day in Sydney. It would not take too much trouble. In fact if anyone in Sydney wants to try out my GPS and see how fast they go, let me know.

I notice you said maybe....... Some doubts there mate
My story is kinda the opposite.I spent 7 yrs windsurfing on a shoestring budget ,living in my car on the beach at times well alot actualy. But what a time i had.Now i'm back at work(fulltime) making some money .
But hey wealth and status aint everything right? Could easy go do it all again at the drop of a hat.
Thats the great thing about windsurfing..The dude swimming in the pit as your bottom turning around him could be a Nuclear Physicist.....

Yeah of course there are maybes. However we are here so we need to make bygones be bygones and live for the present and future. Thus I will stop listening to WS FM and start listening to JJJ again.

Back on topic. I will bring my laptop and my GPS with me tomorrow to the Sandringham area. Where do you meet up there?

I am borrowing a nice looking Naish board from Wind Surf and Snow and hope to be able to use it tomorrow. Top bunch of people there.

Sorry Karl but I won't be able to back you up with a session tomorrow, unless I turn it on for the drive to Hawks Nest (hmmm, no, I couldn't). Maybe you can sign up some more members on the day. I'm sure they can post a score for tomorrow as long as they join before the end of the month.

No worries.

So if anyone wants to try GPS sailing in Sydney tomorrow I will be at Sandringham. I drive a white Mitsubishi Delica. I only have one GPS so perhaps we can do it in 20 minute sessions. I will take my laptop so sessions can be downloaded and stored on it. There will be a policy of if you break or lose it, you have to pay for it. All up it cost me $230 for the GPS and the Aquapack.

Sailing strip at Sandringham - park in Riverside Drive, 100m east of St George sailing club, sandbar is off Pelican Pt.
sailed there a couple of saturdays ago.
Sandbar more exposed at lowish tide, so should be good from 12.30 onwards.
