How do I transfer data from Foretrex 201 in Windows 10?
I have ordered a new usb to serial cable as a possible solution.
It's sooooo long since I did it.... but I think you will need to find a program that can download the data. We used to use RealSpeed, but there were others. GPS-Babel? You will probably need the driver for the Serial to USB cable as well. Not sure if there is one for W10? That is assuming your connection cradle still works/connects - always an issue with that model.
I used to use G7toWin - looks like its out of support now, but might work on win10.

If it does not want to run in W10, try the legacy mode for Win7 or Vista etc, or similar (assuming W10 still allows this?)

There are no Garmin devices suitable for verifyable results for the GPSTC. For that, the only real choice available new ATM is the Locosys GW60 watch.
The superseeded GW52 and GT31 are also excellent and may be available second hand.
For non GPSTC use, there are a few Garmin sports watches that can give you a rough idea of your speeds.
There are also a couple of apps you can use on your smartphone that can give you speed results, (GPS-Logit and Windsport Tracker for Android phones) that can also give you approximate speeds. But be sure to use a VERY waterproof bag to protect your phone!!

you can download windsurf apps for use on the garmin.
i used to be very much into the gps speed sailing scene however the attitudes of some members put me off it.
I purchased a garmin fortrex 910xt.. should be suitable for what i require.

For reference, I use a garmin Geko which is similar vintage to the Foretrex, and does communication via a serial cable. I use the software EasyGPS which seems to work well on later versions of windows. I just plug my device to a windows serial port and then it is one menu click and a start button to begin the download. Unfortunately it is slow serial so takes some time (10 minutes but depends on session length). I can then load the file to KA72 and push the results across to GPSTC easily. It is pretty easy if not a little slow and requires several steps.
I also have a new Vivoactive 3 which is a nicer solution. It gets GPS signal quickly. It has better (higher rate) data than the Geko, and it is easier to get the data off it (wireless via phone and very fast) and it is on a watch that is easier to view when doing activities..... but GPSTC will not allow me to use that even though I can use the Geko which also has no accuracy or doppler data.

Yes the old device is still allowed under legacy provisions, but we are hoping to phase them out as sailors replace them with newer better devices.

Yeah, we've had this discussion. I know the rules. I can use my old clunky device with 2s recording and no accuracy/Doppler, but I can't use my new device with 1s recording and no accuracy/Doppler. My only other option is to buy only one particular device on the market from one supplier that appears to be a risky purchase from threads on this forum.
