First time user of GPS
It is embarrsing to post this but what the heck I am proud of it.
Maximum speed 25.87 kts done at the PIT on Monday on my Barge of a board(the serious guys reckon I could get 30kts out of it) Mistral 144 ltr with a 6.5 mtr sail.
When the wind hit 25 - 30kts changed from a 50 cm fin to a 40 cm fin and put my 5.5 mtr up and got 23 .? kts
Bloody fast for me - probably the fastest I have ever done. Aiming for 30+ kts on my current equipment now then I will look at getting a smaller board and go hunting the Jman and the KGB LOL

Well done mate!

It's difficult to get good speed out of wide boards and big fins... I think that those numbers are quite respectable for your gear.

Now it's time for the shameless pimp (ha ha):
Have you joined the GPS Team Challenge? www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au

Good thing you're in Victoria or Mineral would be all over you like a rash.

Not too much embarrassing about 25/26 Knots....However, I do wonder why you use the word "Old" ....Good luck anyway.

Well done Ol fulla, well done. Oceanblue64 is onto you to join. Its free and lots of fun. besides that, the well established crew will help you crack those new speeds they talk of. Oh and its not embarrassing speed, that's the start point
And as indicated, it gets a bit addictive,so be prepared.

My first post was well below 20 knots so dont be embarased (not that I have gotten much faster lol) but it doesnt matter. With a GPS it means you have a benchmark you can sail against. Trying new techniques, slightly different setups etc, you can see instantly whether its an improvement or not. Besides if you join the challenge and sail with some of the other guys, you get heaps of help and tips for free.

Hey OB64
I do plan to get down your way over summer sometime as I have relos at Point Henry. Will PM you and Red when a trip is on. I was suggesting to a few at Sandy Point last weekend that we should plan a road trip to visit our Western neighbours

Hey old salty..

Went to Sandy on the weekend (Sat & Sun only) and managed a dawn sail on the sunday morning. I reckon I saw you and your mighty Mistral but didn't put 2 and 2 together till you post above. I think Getting you and Pat (OB64) sailing together would be a hoot!

I agree. Nearly a serious case of fogysim nipped in the bud by ageless exuberance. You're not old til you can't sail. Then you're dead.

We have to beware of the "fogysim"

There's the traps of youth, and the traps of age, and it's all so easy to fall into any of them.

But windsurfing helps to keep you sane!
