Apologies for posting on the GPS & Speed thread but i figure most of you guys would have a big rig setup for the light wind days.
Im after fin recommendations (size and brand) for my 2011 122L Futura and cammed 8.4m North. This is my light wind setup, I would rarely sail this combo over 16kts, early planning is the priority preferably with a fin that is reluctant to spin out from my lack of skill. I weigh 80kgs.
Thanks
Any decent slalom fin in the 40cm to 46cm range will do. for eg a techtonic, C3, Vector. If you go carbon instead of G10 you can go smaller in length
If light wind planing is priority then 44 to 46 depending on the fin. If you are heavy on the back foot then the 46cm would be the go. I use a 46 on my 115 L slalom board in very light wind and it almost impossible to spin out.
Surely a 42 would be plenty for that board. The tail is not as wide as a slalom board. I tried a 46 in my iSonic 107 with an 8.5 and it felt really stiff and over finned when up to speed and that has an extra 3cm tail width over the Futura 122, and footstraps probably closer to the rail.
I use a 44cm Canefire when I use my futura 122 with 7.8m and 8.5m Lightning (2 cam) I'm around 90kg and heavy on the backfoot. Nice fin and can't fault it.
I have tried the carbon canefire 44cm.This fin is a killer for lifting the board high out of the water, getting you going super early, very stiff feeling, but only really has two gears.
I use the 44cm choco G10 fireblade 3,much softer sweeter feel especially in the chop.
I agree with visitor on this one, you'd want 44cm+ for light wind.
Especially if you ever want to go upwind.
