Well it must be OK, it should/would/could have been checked from the team capt., admin. and tech reps.
because its still on the latest sessions list.
Southerly Busters (Vic.) on Saturday 2nd April a 28.963(2 sec.) and a 27.249(5x10) did a 26.52 Alpha.
Could we have some confirmation, because it may be time to give up those race sails and speed boards
and start going Slow!
if you look at all the others who have done a 26 knot alpha, their 2 sec for the session was around 38 knots.
That entry is obviously an error. He did say the track was all over the place.
I hope someone is checking it.
Correct procedure when something like this is spotted, is to use the "contact button" on the GTC website to alert admin, they can then request the file for analyses.
I've now done this, so hopefully something will happen soon.
I confirm Anita's observation, when I got my 26kt alpha I had a 2s just under 37kts
A common newbie mistake is to confuse 500 m speed with alpha 500. I have seen and corrected this a bunch of times when new members joined our team. It's generally a 1-time occurrence.

Yep, right on that's what happened.
And he was missing the @ and NM because the filters in GPSResults won't allow gaps in the data.
Either the min speed in the data logger was set too high, and/or the GPS had lost sight of the Sats, because there was a 13s gap in the @ and a 24s gap in the NM.
Glad to see you're on the ball Swallowtail and thanks for your very public concern.
I'm team captain & as you clearly check posts closely you would have noticed i commented same day on the post (after receiving an email from Tony - so he identified it was incorrect himself) saying that we'd check it due to it looking suss. As a non-sailing team captain due to family commitments GPSTC isn't really high on my list of priorities right now (I've had 4 sessions this year & 1 in each of Dec, Nov & Oct) so inadvertently forgot to delete those scores.
Just to ease any concerns, we've been liaising with admin and as you can see from Decrep's comment above the team is on to it. Thanks for checking in so closely on a team who's best annual rank is 18th - maybe just a quick email or PM next time would be nice
The one fact I loved about GPSTC was it was a supportive community from the serious motivated like the Pit Crew to the try hards like The Southerly Busters.

Past tense Salty????????????
Surely this little ruffle on the surface hasn't changed that.
Remember we're a huge community now, made up of HUMANS!
It's impossible to please everybody, and I suspect, (although it's only a theory, I have no evidence) that Mr swallow tail with 18 posts, may be a big supporter of the compulsory post via KA72, and he's combing through sessions in order to find evidence to support this.
If this is the case he's aiming at the system and southerly busters is collateral damage, in the scheme of things this is almost irrelevant, don't let it affect you.
We all make mistakes, they're just stepping stones on the path to perfection, (which will probably take several lifetimes). So be tolerant, be happy and enjoy sailing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Busters are an off shoot of Inverloch Windsurfing Club and as with the club we spend a lot of time supporting newbies into the sport and when they get hooked we introduce them to GPSTC. So we have a number of windsurfers that have come back to the sport or have just found it and we tell them what a wonderful thing the GPSTC is and get them hooked. I guess that is why the Busters tend to be PB central. There have been a few questions over Buster postings over the journey and you get to the point were you say "REALLY" we are not playing for sheep's stations. Or perhaps things have changed and I have been left behind. As a consequence I certainly have not posted as much as I used to and I am aware of a number of team members that do not as well albeit for different reasons maybe. I think Dan has hit the point on the head. Any questions PM the team Captain. Do it behind the scenes.
I think the real issue at hand are those that hide behind fake and anonymous log-ins here on SB. As the saying goes "You've got a lot of nerve but not a lot of spine".
BTW - Decrepit probably puts in more time and effort researching and testing the viability of units and following-up GPSTC queries than anyone else. Without these guys the GPSTC would fall into a big heap. Whilst we haven't always agreed on certain issues (mandatory use of KA72 as one example) I have the highest respect for his opinion(s).
oh dear, a little thing has been blown out of all proportion owing to lack of wind and a few people with frustrations.
Swallowtail was trying to do the right thing by bringing the error to our attention, he just didn't know the correct procedure for doing so. Neither did I - and I am a team captain. I thought Swallowtail was very diplomatic in the way he phrased that query, and he did not deserve the red thumbs.
Thanks Decrepit for pointing out the correct procedure to follow. I am sure that will cause less angst. Now we know. I had noticed the error myself but as Dan had indicated he would check it I was waiting for him to do so.
Dan - it is very decent of you to continue to be team captain even though you have little time for sailing. Being team captain can take a lot more effort than is obvious to the average team member.
It is important that all entries in the GPSTC are accurate, whether you are a top ranking team or not.

[moderated]
Touche Milsy! How can I ever counter such brilliant retorts as that. I assume you were out sailing when they were handing out brains (see, I can lower myself to your primary school taunts)
Also send us all your open ocean speed sailing sessions so I can improve my level of sailing from "Shiz" to "learning to water start"
BTW - my response was to your earlier post abusing decrepit and co that you conveniently deleted, not to Swallowtails OP.
PS - I recall your incredible outrage to my Caption Comp many moons ago and how you carried on like a pork chop. I am always circumspect of the psyche of those that call out things like that. It must be hard to fight the urges of all those voices in your head.
Please can we keep this constructive? Calling each other names is not really being all that helpful.

Sorry Dad but he started it
I was under the impression that these kinds of errors would be picked up almost immediately, but seeing
it was still there on Monday I had to say something and it was still there Tuesday.
Now I am branded as a secret troll looking at everyones scores, get real gu-ru.
Old Salty, if you have not got 4 GPS on your body you have been left behind.
Well Swallowtale, being an anonymous poster is inviting suspicion, so you can't blame people suspecting the worst of you.
And I hope every body knows now, that there isn't any formal inspection of posts, That's just too big a job to ask anybody to do.
So if you notice something that looks wrong, either contact the team captain, or GTC admin
The GTC, relies on the honesty and sportsmanship of it's sailors, which in the main works very well.
If you travel around a bit, you realise the huge sense of community and family amongst us.
Events like Burrum and places like Lake George, bring home to you what a fantastic thing the GTC is.
Most people are trying to do the right thing, but some don't realise what the rules are, fair enough a bit of education sorts that out.
But a very small minority doesn't seem to care about the rules.
I'm not sure what we can do about them?
The truth is, Decrepit and Sailquik and Sausage were asked to police the GPSTC (along with others, including me). When Hardie resigned as administrator, a number of people around the country were invited to be in the administrative committee - because of their enthusiasm for the competition and technical knowledge. Other interested parties could also nominate at that time.
Decrepit may be anonymous to you but I know him well.
If you knew him you could not help but respect and like him. I have never heard a bad word about him from anyone who knows him.
Decrepit is a very quiet, understated and modest man despite his expert skills. If he has been thrust into a position of authority it is because he was asked to do so and responded because he wanted to support the GPSTC in a time of transition, not because he aspired to a position of power.
Decrepit is quietly competitive but not overtly so, and is willing to assist any sailor who asks for assistance, even captains from rival teams.
Decrepit and Sailquik's work with various GPS devices is freely shared for the edification of all, and most of us are grateful for their efforts because it saves us from having to do put in the effort.
Decrepit and the GPSTC administrative team have my full support.
"thepeacemaker" clearly has a problem with the GPSTC. It would be helpful if you were to clearly state exactly and concisely what your complaint is, without personal insults, via the contact page on the GPSTC so your problem can be directly addressed by the committee.
The truth is, Decrepit and Sailquik and Sausage were asked to police the GPSTC ..............................
Thanks Anita but I don't think police is the right word...maybe we're more like doctors quarantining a few anti-vaxxers and giving them a couple jabs to ensure the health of the whole community, although come to think of it, do we get a badge with the police role and would it get me free meals at hungry jacks & donutking?
You are right, police is not the best word, I was just using that to mirror what had already been said.
Administer and adjudicate are more accurate
BTW I am not on the committee. I was invited but I declined owing to other responsibilities.
Doctor Sausage?
So now I have to be vaccinated/medicated and placed in isolation, away from the GPS site and while in there
finding out that you can put down any scores and no one is checking! and I have only posted 20 times.
No wonder you have a lot of "yes" men replies when your threatened with the big needle.
Humour not your strong point Milsy & Swallowtail! Don't worry I still love youse.
Okay, now from this shiz sailor & poser's perspective (as Milsy has so rightly pointed out), I really think it's fantastic that the GPSTC community vigilantly and independently flag suspect session postings. I can understand people's reluctance to identify themselves when calling out an erroneous post but the main issue is the way it was initially alerted. Maybe Swallowtail could have taken a softer approach to what clearly appeared to be a rooky error. I'd hate to think a sailor would quit the challenge because he's been labelled a cheat publicly (although this has happened before).
Swallow, I don't disagree with you, only the way that you handled the issue.
imagine hanging with sausage.......exactly
You don't know the half of it....I've got to hang out with him 24/7
Doctor Sausage?

Thanks for the nice words Anita and Sausage, now I'm embarrassed.
And did somebody say something about me being anonymous? You only have to click on the avatar to see my profile.

Well I guess you could volunteer to do all the checking of every post that comes in every day, I'm certainly not going to!
And if anybody is deliberately cheating, in the end they are only cheating themselves.
