Lilacs turned it on Yesterday, (Sat 21 Jan 22).
I counted 24 PBs among 4 teams and 14 sailors, only 3 sailors not getting PBs.
Best overall numbers. 2s 42.57. 5x10 40.7, NM 39.449, alpha 28.4, hr 26.249, dist 200.3km

Wouldn't you love those numbers as your top 5 PBs

Don't be sorry mate, I must have gone into that alternative universe, don't know what happened there.
Bugger I can't edit it now either.

Here is an article I wrote for the West Australian newspaper - we will have to wait to see if they publish it or not.

Perth windsurfer Mark Woodley made history in Albany on Saturday when he recorded the fastest windsurfing U turn ever recorded by an Australian, and the fourth fastest ever recorded in the GPS Team Challenge, which is a worldwide speedsailing competition for windsurfing. The average speed over Mark's gybe (a down wind U turn) was 29.384 knots, or 54.4 km/hr.
The speed measurement is called an alpha, which is the average speed over 500 m including a gybe (a downwind U turn) .

Mark broke his previous record set in 2021 of 28.24 knots (52.3km/hr), and the record of Peter Daish from South Australia in 2022 of 28.8 knots (53.3 km/hr).The top alpha ever recorded in the GPSTC competition is 30.45 kn (56.4 km/hr) recorded by Jacques van der Hout from the Netherlands in 2021. Mark's alpha yesterday is the fourth fastest ever recorded in the competition which has been running since 2007.

Albany turned on sensational conditions for speed sailing on Saturday with a combination of high wind and moderate tide providing flat water and plenty of wind energy for speed. A large group of sailors from Perth, Mandurah, Busselton and Albany and two from the USA made the most of the forecasted conditions with 9 sailors recording peak speeds over 40 knots (74 km/hr) which is considered elite status for speed sailors, and three scoring over 42 knots (77.8km/hr).

Mark is a member of the Perth based windsurfing team the Pinnaroos, who won the annual GPSTC competition nationally in 2019 and were runner's up in 2022 and 2021.

Impressive speeds! I wish we had a spot like that in the San Francisco Bay Area! 29 knots alpha is just shy of the best 10" speed in a straight around here

Got some footage of the epic day but decided for a change to just get NM. This consumed many batteries but at least got Rondog's PB and location NM record result. Unfortunately didn't chase anyone, especially Woody's amazing Alpha (but many others were smashing out crazy #'s). Need a backup drone pilot for these bigs days! Check video description for more link to more in depth review of Woody's NM.
