hey Decrep,
When and IF I crack 30 knots I will be very smug. That seems to be a glass ceiling for plenty of sailors.

Hey Herby, 30 knots is quick! You'll know you're moving when you get there.

The only way I can do it is by really going downwind in a good gust. Check out Firie's tracks when he's on a screamer -- you can really tell that he's bearing off and going fast. I might be mistaken, but from your tracks it looks like you might be able to get another couple of knots for free just by heading a bit more downwind in a gust?

Very hard when it's super choppy nebs, think all herb needs is a half decent speed course with the right wind.

Had another look at your tracks Herby and realised I was talking out of my @rse. Disregard what I said above, and good luck cracking 30

Herb sent me this message.

Just a bit on Tinaroo. I have created a image of the sailing area to demonstrate
some of the difficulties we have. (Last thing I want to do is whinge or make excuses)
On analyzing my tracks today I agree with Neb and you that the points where I attained max speed is where I was bearing off. (even briefly) The white arrows point to these points.
In future I will make a point of turning off at a greater angle when the opportunity presents. We will be spending more time at Kurramine Beach and at the lower tides it gets pretty flat so might be a good chance there.
Always enjoy reading the forums and was going to post this image on there, but too difficult for me.
Maybe you could forward it onto Neb.

Good one herb, that explains a lot.

Yep that explains heaps! I didn't realise the troubles with wind shadows and the short length of the run. To do those speeds on decent chop with such a short runup is quite impressive

Good luck at Kurramine.
