Hi Guys
I recorded my session on Botany Bay today using a Suunto Ambit2 S, which I use for the gym and x-training. I downloaded and installed the windsurfing app, but need an explanation of what the 5x10S MAX AVG means. Is it my average speed for 10 seconds over 5 runs?
This is only my second season windsurfing and I'm no expert yet, but was pretty stoked to break 20kts given I was struggling to get in the straps and hook-in this time last year. My 5x10S Max was 22.28, sailing with a 5.4 North freestyle sail and 2013 115ltr Tabou Rocket LTD carbon, 37cm fin.
Anyway, can you also please tell me what a delta is and the other lingo?
Cheers
Hey, looks like you had a great day, great sess, nice one man,,, breaking twenty is a sweet achievement, well done
I don't know much lingo, to me, a delta is a shallow water weedy
yes, 5 by 10s, your best 5 runs for 10secs of length, averaged
Alpha, 250 mtrs, gype, 250mtrs back within 50m of starting point,
NM, naticle mile, about 1.8km of sailing
Your doing real well for ya second yr in
at that stage for myself I was learning lingo like catapult, nose dive, fin letting go, slide to rail catch, ect,,,,,,,,,good luck man![]()

Thanks Milsy. I feel like a dill saying Delta... I meant Alpha :P
I have to admit I used to windsurf back in the 80/90s and I'm a keen surfer, but haven't been on a sailboard for at least 20 years.
Anyhow, is there a website where everyone uploads their times etc?
Try KA72
What sort of file does your GPS generate? Whatever it is download it to your computer and then upload it as suggested by Dean to KA72. It will work out everything.
As suggested you can upload to: www.ka72.com/
Then you need to join a team here: gpsteamchallenge.com.au/
It's very addictive. Enjoy.
Cheers
Marty
Alpha is a 250m run, jibe then 250m run back, running parallel to the first track no further than 50m away.
Not sure that you will be able to unload any data from that device.

If you join a GPS Team challenge team, you can upload here.
www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/index.php?country=0
Also look at, and post on www.gps-speedsurfing.com
This is for individual results rather than focused on team results as in the GPS-TC. ![]()
I don't know much
I agree![]()

What about Kiteloop?
1hr - Your average speed for an hour.
Distance - How far you sailed.
Thanks Karl, Marty et al. I'll see what the output file is and send it through. Karl, I think you joined me up to a team last year... any chance you can send through the deets please.
I was so stoked on Sunday's session... it was the first time since getting back into sailing that I was really comfortable in the straps and had my lines set perfectly, the right fin and sail combo etc. I was able to completely close the gap between board and sail, bare off a bit and try to hit top speed while staying in complete control. Good times. Frothin to get out there again and try to break 25kts.
Cheers for the advice and encouragement gents. See you out there.
Nigel
Hi Nige,
yeah you joined the Double Demerits. There was a strong team showing last Sunday so it would be a good day to start posting. The best way for you to post is to get your logon details for the GPS Team Challenge site.
Once you can log in your web browser should remember the log on credentials. Then go to KA72.com, upload the file. Once uploaded it gives a link to post to the GPSTC site. The results will go straight across.
The other way to do it is basically sending the file to me and I do all the stuff. Its better if you do it.
Ok, so I figured out how to export my .GPX file, and have uploaded it through KA and onto the GPSTC website :) Good times!
Geeze... some of you guys are ripping!! Karl, you've got some great times too :) 20kts felt fast, but I know I can do heaps better... I can't wait to get better and go out in 30kts with my 6m cam sail. I was playing it pretty safe last weekend with my 5.4 RAF, but at my stage I'd prefer to be a little under-powered and in control, than hanging on for dear life.
So how does all team challenge work? What are we trying to achieve apart from PBs?
Cheers for all the help and advice guys.
Nigel
Well done Nigel. The idea is to help your team's total performance for the month in all categories. Most of us hacks never make it to that level but you never know so keep trying and post up your results and one day you might be rewarded with a jellybean. Most of us use it as a record for our sessions and always trying to achieve a PB or at least top 5 on your own page. It's all in good fun mate so welcome back to the sport and enjoy.
Cheers
Marty
The basic idea of the GPSTC is for two or more people from the same team to sail and give a result on the same day. If they do a team result is recorded. Results from a single sailor does not give a team result. If the two sailors average score for a particular category on that day beats the best team result for that month in that category then it will count for the team result for the month. If more than two sailors from the team sail that day then the top scorers will get the result.
It gets a bit technical but its all about developing better relationships between windsurfers and encourage them to windsurf more.
Your times only count while you are fastest or second fastest in your team for the month. It shows you this in "bold" at the bottom of each day IF you have the fastest pair of times in each category. Also the jellybeans are an indication of this.
Cheers
Marty
Hopefully there's some breeze tomorrow... I need to break 25kts. ![]()
P.S. What are jellybeans (other than the edible type)?
