Hey guys , I bought a gps off gumtree last week , that I got to use 3 times before I lost it after a stack today .
Im thinking a cheapish watch may be the way to go . (bit addictive knowing speed and distance travelled)
Any recommendations
I was leaning towards a phone but after some thought I recon a watch may be easier to use
Just putting it out there , any advice is good
Cheers
If you just want an indicative value, the cheapest option is a really cheap phone.
However, when speed-sailing as you start getting your speeds say above 30kn, then 30 to 31 kn is a significant jump (35 to 36, 40 to 41, whatever). The question you need to answer -> do you want to know, with relative certainty, if you actually did 29kn or 31 kn ?
If you do want that accuracy, you get what you pay for.
As long as you're not posting on official GPSTC and you don't mind the colour, I am a big fan of the Suunto. I've had mine for about two years now. Going strong, links to iPhone, Strava, produces .GPX file, alerts you if your phone is ringing or you receive a message etc (bluetooth range dependant). AA uses one too!!!
For $138 you cannot go wrong.

Tony is that ypur only GPS that yu use while sailing?
Did you need to download an APP for it for windsurfing? or as you bought it.
Great price.
Dave, I use it only as a ready reference for distance generally and my 2 sec. You can configure the readout to whatever you want.
I have a GT31 & GW52 but wear them on my shoulder where I can't read them.
Suunto has has a heap of windsurfing apps that users send in. To initiate a session for recording, it's a 5 second sequence.
cheers guys , I am going to buy a garmin forerunner910xt on gumtree for 75 hopefully it works alright
thanks for the replies
