I just found this in the latest Australia Post catalogue. It appears to be the same as, or virtually identical to the Alcatel Pixie 3 Phones I have been using for GPS-Logit feedback. Locked to Optus network of course, but I don't put the sim in it anyhow for sailing use.
It should wotk with GPS-Logit and other Android gps speed apps. The deal goes to the end of the month.
It's a pretty basic phone and only 3G etc, but ll that does not matter for speed apps. Double check that it has an internal GPS before buying, just in case they have changed the specs. ![]()
Mine are great for on the water feedback, but not near good enough for GPS-Teamchallenge posting.
Important: Use a very good waterproof bag!!!![]()

Pretty sure my Pixies are 3.5" Mike. I will double-check when I get home. I also have a larger Alcatel Pixie that is 4" I think and it is a tight fit in the H2Oaudio arm bag.
Perhaps I'm thinking of the operating system number, perhaps that needed to be at least 4. Can't trust this old memory anymore.
Andrew, I think you told me once you had 4" and 4.5" . Saying the 4" was better for sailing and the 4.5 better as a phone.
I also read that someone who bought the 3.5 found it was missing something we needed. A gps !!

Yep. Your memory is better than mine YoYo.
The ones I have are 4" and a 4.5"
The one I posted is suposed to have a GPS though. The only question is if it has enough screen to run the app.
There is another one that looks like my Pixie 4" in the AP brochure on sale called 'first'. Better specs i think but also pushing the limits on what I consider low cost enough to risk @ $59
OTOH, it is unlocked, so it could be worth getting for use as a spare phone. ![]()

Can be had up here in the good old US of A for $9.99 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Alcatel-OneTouch-Pixi-Eclipse-Prepaid-Smartphone-Bundle-Promo-Available/51413952
Happy to get a bunch and mail down to OZ. Daffy can distribute them.

ID...what's that? You just order them and away you go. Not sure what shipping would be, that's why it's best to do a group buy.
I found that the Alcatel OneTouch Evolve2 that I have been using for GPSLogIt doesn't have enough RAM (only 0.5 MB) to run WindSportTracker. Fortunately, was able to snag a couple of Tracfone Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro reconditioned phones for $25 each. These phones have 1.5 MB RAM, support up to 128 GB SD cards, and have a 5" display. The phones may be reconditioned but they look brand new. I'm also pleased with the extra 'elbow room' for running apps and the larger display.

Nice! The J3 should have USB, so in theory, you could use them with the Drotek Neo-M8 GPS module. I'll try that when I get mine.

Peter, not sure from your post whether you are waiting for the GPS module or a J3. The Tracfone J3s are not consistently available since they are reconditioned units. Last I checked the reconditioned units were not available, just the $60 new units. I needed one more phone to dork around with while waiting for my sight to return to normal so bought a reconditioned Tracfone Galaxy J7 Sky Pro for $60. Has 2 MB of RAM and 5.5 inch display. Great for screwing around with UAV (drone) flight simulator and flight restriction apps. Will probably spring for a tablet or dedicated in-controller display when I buy my drone in July - but might be a good backup. Display definitely large enough to easily read GPSLogit numbers.
Question: with GPSLogIt not available on Google Play anymore, is there anyway to move or reinstall this app from one phone to another without going through Google Play? I'm not an android SW developer so this may sound like a silly question. From Manfred's response to me a couple of weeks ago, I'm not sure if GPSLogIt will surface again on Google Play - depends on how many legal hurdles he has to jump to meet the new EU privacy regulations...

You can use an app called Apk Extractor.
Thank you YoYo!
I used Apk Extractor by Coding blocks G. Noida to get the apk file. Installed GPSLogIt on my Galaxy J7 - everything seems to be working as advertised!
Might grab a pair for cycling and try them out sailing www.dcrainmaker.com/2018/04/everysight-cycling-display.html I wonder if it would work with bluetooth gt31 for display screen?

Ahh. I was confused as usual. Here, the ID is only nessasary to activate the service (sim card). Sorry.

Not bad.
But @ US$499 and only IP55 which is really only lightly "Splashproof" (may survive a light. brief drizzle?), I dont think they would have many takers for windsurfing. ![]()
But they have most of the features, that in a truly waterproof package, would be excellent. ![]()
Yes, I recon if they have BT, they would probably work with the BGT-31 sending NMEA data, but you may as well use the internal GPS.
Hi all I have a Pixel phone and Im trying to install the gpslogit after downloaded no worries
error App not installed
Any clues thanks
I just noticed that the latest version of GPS-Logit says for Android 8 and up. If you have an older OS, this might be the problem.
I just tried to update to this version and got the error message. 'Could not Parse this package' when I went to install it. (admittedly in Android 6)
It might be a faulty APK package. Has anyone managed to install it?
It appears as if the latest version of GPS-Logit is only able to be installed on phones running Android 8 and higher. I tried to install it on my Android 6 phone and it would not install, so I didnt even bother to try on one of my Android 4.4 phones.
This is actually a problem because phones running A8 are usually not that cheap, and I am only prepared to risk a very cheap phone due to the very high danger of water damage and impact damage like this which happened the first time I used this phone Luckily it was only a $25 loss:

For those others, who like me, value the use of GPS-Logit for comprehensive on the water feedback (including speed talk - which I really like), I can report that I have found one 4" screen A8 phone model on special at Australia Post. It is a Telstra Essential Smart, currently on sale for $49, which is not too bad a risk.
There are also a couple of 5" A8 phones available on deals now for a little more, but the 4" ones fit in my excellent H2O Audio waterproof arm bands better.
The 5" ones I found today are the Essential Smart Plus, on sale at Coles for $69:
And the Alcatel 1X also on sale at Coles for $79:
Edit: I Just found the photo upload won't work for me at the moment. I will try again later.
