Just got a shiny new puter and installed the latest Realspeed & G7toWin.
Both working fine except that I have only managed to read from the GPS via an Aten cable once.
I have downloaded the vista driver for the cable and installed it, I'm getting the old "Com Port #1 no worky" syndrome again.
Sorry can't remember the exact error.
I went through this last year with my old computer and it took months to get it sorted.
If it works once it should work always no?
Can someone tell me what com port settings I should have or is it another problem.
I've tried changing it to #1 as the error is associated with com port #1 and I have also used the correct port #5 where it is plugged in.
I don't have the patience for this crap!!!!!!!!
My wife says that hitting it or throwing through the window wonn't fix it.
Maybe not but I would feel better![]()
Opps. Sorry Paul for the blank message. I'm all thumbs...
My best suggestion is to open the control panel and find the 'device manager' (I guess Vista has this in some form)
If you can find that you should be able to see which com port the cable is connected to. It may not be the same as on your last computer. If you definitely have G7towin looking on the correct com port then I am also out of ideas. :-(
It sounds like you are using a USB/Serial cable - the problem I have had with those is that when you plug it in it "randomly" seems to get given a com# port address - quite often the same one but sometimes it might get a different one. I think the hardware - device manager - ports - should tell you which port it is using. But I cant tell you how to get into the device manager in Vista - on XP one way was to right click "my computer" and choose manage, then device manager was in the "tree" - dont know if that works in Vista.
