Ok. Forecast is looking good, (not great) for the weekend, so was thinking of doing Burrum again. Tides are mid-arvo lows... not overly low, but good enough. Who's keen if the forecast is still good on Friday night?
Saturday is our for me as I have kids soccer to go to. Perhaps Sunday, although there is a demo day here.
Hi Fitz. No kit for that location ...... for now. I'll be at the ww/demo day as well. It won't be at least till August before my new kit arrives so a long wait. Only have wave gear so bugger...... will have to settle with waves.![]()
Wifes gotta get out of jail early card from work, we are traveling up tonight. See you boys on the water tomorrow..yippee
So you guys up B[?urrum way, is it going to be worth the trip? How was it today? Is the rain goin to #*# it up?
when i was up at burrum i took loads of readings out on the bank and compared them to the hervey bay station.
the data on the bank during the event was very close to the hervey bay station. almost exactly the same.
todays chart has some big range in wind. blowing 15-29 knots then 9-12 knots. ![]()
that's gusty for sure.

I love Queensland in the winter.
I just returned from Burrum, a lovely early morning session.
The wind started really howling as I was leaving.
The sand bar was starting to come out at 11am when Mikey and Fitz hit the strip.
Something tells me they won't be disappointed this trip....
burrum is obviously qld's best speed strip. (that's known)
it may not have the consistent wind that sandy point has but i reckon it has the best potential for magic.
there whould be around 2-3 times a year between december and april when the cyclones happen the burrum stands a chance of breaking major records.
there will be a small window of opportunity but it is possible and would be worth people flying in from around oz and other countries.
agree vambo! ![]()
it is a small window and the unknown would be the tidal surge when the cyclones are around. it's only the lows we get in qld that produce the wind required to do outstanding speeds. so time will tell but my money is on burrum.
not to knock VP. it certainly has a nice wind tunnel effect due to the islands, and i love the place being my local spot, plus it has definately shown to be flat in very high winds which we see regularly there.
buttttt..... i think if you guys sailed burrum as much as you do down here burrum would have all the the trophies.
of course there is always Tim's! the secret NE spot. will have to wait till we get a NE'r to try it but all of my scoping work has it high on the list.
