Might be looking at one to bridge a gap in my gear. Any experiences out there? Suitability for speed, chop, alpha etc? Realise it's not a nice new design but budget is prohibitive atm.
John, I have AMAC's Sonic 85 here, not sure if it,s an 03 though. I am sure he woudn,t mind you taking for a spin.
Got a feeling his may be the 2006 model if I've seen it down at SP. Does it have blue on it or just silver?
Hi Seahorse-sailed the silver sonic 85l ? 03 ?04 model on Maui last year .I hired it from the JP /NP shop on the island after trying a range of the JP slalom boards.
The board was light/fast & a dream to gybe .Was running 5.8s 6.7s & 7.2s on it with a 34cm MFC slalom fin .
Found it handled the chop really well & felt safe in the air at 30+ knots sailing in the "Sprecks Speed Run ".Found the similar volume JPs were cavitating with the mfc fin so made the switch & sailed the sonic for most of our last 7/7 on the island.
WAs getting speeds up to ~34 knots out of it in pretty chopped up conditions so I suspect you'll really enjoy it .
Hope this helps ...
Thanks for that Cam. Sounds like just what I'm after - I'll see if I can get it over 40!! - glad that it gybes well & handles chop.
Hi seahorse,
Hope to catch up again at sandy point soon
. I rode a 2004 sonic 90 for a while in the early days of speed sailing and did a high 35 knot peak with a 6.0m v8 and select 27cm fin. Being heavier than me in some good wind i am sure the sonic 85 will take you over 40
. It was very fast, handled the chop well and gybed very well.
Good sailing to you.
Cheers,
Carl.
