After years of dilly-dallying, I've finally gotten around to creating a framework for a new version (V3) of ka72.com
The site is now open for beta feedback at new.ka72.com

What's new:
You can now add session notes to your tracks (which can be posted to GPSTC) and comment on each other's tracks.
Search works more reliably and is much better organized
Looks and works better on mobile devices

What's done so far:
Home page and sign in (use your existing ka72.com login on the new site.)
Latest uploads on the homepage
Track details with overlays and discussion/notes area
Sailor Score leaderboard
Post to GPSTC from your track
Speed Kingdoms revamped and expanded with additional history

What kinda works right now:
If you want to find your tracks, click/tap on your name in the Sailor Score leaderboard, and you'll be taken to a search for your tracks.

What's definitely not done yet:
Uploading tracks on the new site
Managing your existing tracks
Sailor stats
Personal profile/settings
Competitions etc

I'm pausing work on the public facing end for feedback and to work on the competition management bits and pieces I need for Burrum Windfest later this month.

Please let me know how you get on and feedback of any kind is gratefully accepted either here or by email to dylan@ka72.com

Cheers,
Dylan

Dylan just looking at the new search page.
If I search for "Coal Point" it works but when I put in a search radius I get the error message "Search failed. Is the API running?"
I am using Edge Browser.

Thanks, fixed it.

Yes working now.
This is a big improvement to the old search which was never 100% reliable

On the new system I don't see the track download link.

Here are a few more suggestions.
1. A way of simply choosing a single day. rather than having to pick the start and then pick the end date the same, perhaps a little tick box, for this day only?

2. It would be great to see the returned results sorted by speed.

3. Would it be possible to highlight the ones that have been posted to GPSTC?

One thing I have always wanted is a way of seeing who was the fastest on a particular day at a particular location. It is painful in Team Challenge as you have to open each team separately to see if who sailed where.

The new site is looking really good.

Great suggestions.

I'll work on 1 and 2. I don't think 3 would be possible right now, since I don't track which ones have been posted to GPSTC, but it does make me think maybe we should track that.

Very nice. Thank you for doing this for us all . My only request is an easy way to name unknown locations, or changing locations that are wrong (if that is straight forward, which I suspect isn't).

OK, I've added original GPS file and KML file downloads buttons and fixed the things you were asking for. Now when searching you can select a single day, and sorting by speed is now an option.

Did I mention I'm going on vacation in a few days, visiting WA for the first time in almost 30 years, so the next day or two is a great time to ask for changes as I'll be busy relaxing for a couple of weeks.

I'll tackle track uploads when I get back home next month. It's too much to do right now.

Really appreciate the ideas!

I actually spent a bit of time today on an interface (admin) to fix up unknown locations and fixed locations for over 3000 tracks that had "Unknown Location" as their location. It seems that the automated system has been out of order for a while. My bad. Google APIs change and ka72 didn't change when the API did. But a lot of stuff that was previously "Unknown" should now have a real location.

The old "report a track issue" link on the old site is currently still the best place to request a fix for location issues as you spot them, but I've made it whole lot easier to maintain, and will fix the automatic location recognition for new tracks at the same time I sort out uploads on the new site. Locations are detected and created when tracks are uploaded, so that just makes sense to do at the same time.

Dylan it's big happy news you are still doing it and have ramped it up again. Looks great. You help make many happy sailors. Location Jimmy's Beach was always weird, I had to type it out, it would never recognise the spot. searching new page seems to work better.
Ability to combine files for posting to GPSTC might be nice. Although I doubt many do multiple disciplines on one day, sometimes i wing then fin and keep them seperate. would be nice to see total track of combined.

I've done a bunch of work on the site today, including heaps of changes to the Search screen based on feedback from everyone, and adding stuff like the track downloads, and reporting track issues.

If you want to know how best to use the new site in your current workflow right now, I suggest:
use ka72.com to upload your track, then when you get to the screen that shows the track results, rather than click the "Post to GPSTC" button there, change the url to new.ka72.com and click on the track in the recent uploads, do the session notes there and post to GPSTC from the new site.

If you are asked to login to GPSTC, just switch back to new.ka72.com and click the same button again. It will probably work the 2nd time. I've reached out to the GPSTC maintainers to try and resolve this, but until that is fixed at their end, it may require two clicks on the button to actually post a track.

I've been working on porting the track calculations this evening, but its a big job and I'm away on vacation for the next few weeks so it probably won't be done before next month.

Thanks so much for all your input and suggestions.
Dylan.

Last change for the day, just in time for me to go away on holidays, I've added the Upload button to the new site.

New feature: you can now upload .zip files downloaded from Garmin Connect without unzipping them first.

The Upload stuff has been tested fairly thoroughly, but please let me know if you spot something weird or broken. I've already seen a couple of oddities.
