Well, it's only about 8 weeks now till the speed season officially kicks off in Vic.
From the response to my post a couple of months back asking for the dates for Al Green's Speed Fortnight and Speedweek this year;
- Al Green confirmed his fortnight will be on again (27 Sept - 12 Oct)
- The WV/KA Speedweek was "being discussed" by the potential organisers.
- Checked the WV site - they still had last years events up (pathetic)
- gave KA a call - they couldn't confirm dates or even if it would be on
Well, I've got to book the Annual Leave to get to these (if I leave it any longer, the boss is likely to knock me back), so I'm going to book a week's leave (i.e. will end up with 9 days) at Al Green's little happening.
As for "Speedweek", well, if WV/KA can't get their act together, fine. It's their exposure and their reputation that loses out.
If I recall right "Mathew" mentioned he might book a house - was this for Al Green's event, and if so have you made a booking yet? If so, is there a spare bunk?
Cheers.
hmm... did you see the "slalom nationals" post...? I have booked a house for the week following Melbourne Cup long weekend, from the Saturday to following Sunday.
As for Al's fortnight... I have inquired about a house for that too - it appears the same house is available (which is the same as last year). I'd like to book a house again and I currently have three on the short list...
So, I guess this is for everybody... If you are coming to Al Green's get together and would like somewhere to stay... message me. Cost per person last year was about $210 per person for two weeks, with 8 guys sharing (but I'd expect it to be a little higher this year). If you only want to stay a week, thats fine too.
I,ve just ordered a new speedboard which should arrive before Al,s event. I will now have a spare 9' x 18" speedboard for anyone to borrow during the event. Its good for a 40 kt ave on the right day. So bring your small fins and sails and have a go at speedsailing at the best place in the world. One condition.....No going faster than me![]()
Kato I'd love to borrow the board, somehow I think my 90lt slalom board is going to prove to be a handful in those conditions. What size fin do you recommend in it?
I'll throw in the POS-custom too - its good for 38's - only a few weeks of sailing stress by a stingy bastard. You will however require at least 35kn of wind before its buoyancy is effective...
On a serious note, I have a spare Select 26 which would probably fit either board - you are welcome to hit me up for it.
Sickem, I have a few spare speed fins that people can use (tuttle box), but I,d recommend a max of 280mm. BYO wind
