Goodluck guys. We've got WindGuru showing gusts up to 63 knots later in the week for SE TAS - highest I've ever seen prior to this was 58 knots! There's a storm a brewing ....
246 views already! Pity we can't get the Tour de France TV crew. With a yellow helmet system of course.
Steady green arrows at Hogan Island already

the wind remained WNW during the low tide and didn,t move more westerly untill the tide was racing in. I did 1 run for about 200m untill i just ran out of wind, just too broad (31kt peak) Matt got a longer run,but ran out of puff or smooth water just past the end of the large dune. Big bullets of wind comming through turning the inlet white and a few very close lightening strikes when the West change came through. Could have been a "Spotty day" if the tide and wind had come together. I left early so the guys left may have a bash in the high tide, but very hard to get some good speeds in 45+kts and swell. Theres always latter in the week ![]()

Let us hope the wind swings WSW a little earlier than the forecast predicts so the crew and Slowy can make the most of the low tide at midday on Sunday. I imagine being a W/E there will be big turn out despite the chilly temperatures.
Good luck guys.
Extremities crossed for Sunday now. I managed 42.5 peak on my one and only run but it was just too dangerous, sailing that fast on 15cm chop plus rolling swell from the tidal surge against the wind. Nasty!
Hi YoYo,
That tide chart shows data for the ocean beach at Sandy Point. Add an hour and a half on average for the inlet near the speed course. :-)
The forecasts are changing every model run at the moment. At the current time it looks like Saturday, Sunday and Monday are all a chance, but this time of the year the wind can often defy forecasts and just stay NW to WNW, as we were reminded last Tuesday. :-(
Andrew, great to know that the low tide will be 1-1.30pm. It looks REALLY good with the current forecast. 40knots SW at low tide on Sunday.
It's been awhile since a windsurfer did 50... maybe Sunday's the day.
Fingers crossed that it holds.
For anyone contemplating a "sail" at SP this Sunday, please really take all precautions before deciding to sail. If the forecast is right, expect storm force winds in squalls and strong gales the rest of the time. Last Tuesday we had some stranded sailors and ditched equipment. Ask others what they think if you're unsure because conditions will test even the most experienced sailors and help will not be readily available. If you struggle to waterstart when tired in 25 knots-forget it.
Other than that, enjoy!![]()

1. New World record!
The Record Committee has validated the claim for a new world record by Craig Spottiswood.
The new record with the claimed speed of 47.58 Knots will be made visible on the site soon.
So I guess it was a little windy at SP ![]()
