Would it be possible to buy a complete kit for under $1000 and run 40 knots with?

First time I cracked 40 I was on a 10year old slalom board, 2 cam freeride sail, custom fin, 50% carbon mast,al boom so yes its possible.
that was my first trip to sandy point this year would be my 5th time

Never done it myself, but I did sell a board for $100.. maybe it was 50, that later went on to crack 40 knots. It was an old hard-edged slalom board and I'd just caught an outside rail at 32.2 knots. I wasn't getting on it again.

Yep, but only in ideal conditions, and you might be waiting a while for that! Modern kit will enable one to run 40 knots in much less than ideal conditions and far more often.

eg, older speed board and small slalom fin or if you are a bigger guy a small slalom board. Older 4m to 5m speed/slalom sail or even wave sail if it's windy enough.

I have just touched 40 knots peak speed on a wave board and 3.7m wave sail with the standard fin, but it was hell windy!!!!

Geeze, I recon I have a heap of very old kit tucked away that would technically be worth bugger all but would easily crack 40 knots on the right day (35-40 knots of WSW on low tide at Sandy Point). Not that I would sell it mind you. It's part of my 'museum' collection!

I am hanging out for 'that day' so that on my modern equipment I can have a go at 45 knots plus.
