Has anyone ridden one? What are they like? Top speed in chop?
I'm looking for an all-round slalom board to do speed runs on, that won't sink too badly when the wind drops out. Wind speed 15-30 knots, sails 6.8 - 4.5. I weigh 85 kg.
I've tried the 86 (loved it, but just a tiny bit small in lulls), and the 101 (hated it, too wide, wouldn't gybe to save itself). The 86 is 243x56.5, the 94 is 243x59, the 101 is 234x63 [yes the 101 is shorter by 9cm!!].
Anyone tried the 94? Have any opinions?
Hi Ben,
Just sold mine but it was one of the best boards I have owned.
Comfortable with a wide range of fins and sail sizes.
I used it with a 27 SL7 and 5m RS racing up to the stock 34 with a 7.8 RS racing.
Sweet spot was the 6.7 RSR, 31SL7.
Was a little sinky for my 110kg but still glugged ok. Planed a little slower than the Falcon 91 I had before it but the falcons plane early and have a few cm's extra width. Great and comfortable in the chop and still head upwind well, I often got higher peaks than on smaller boards due to the comfort in chop. Peaks were 40 software. Great for alphas too.
Cheers
Tim
Hi Nebbian,
Great board - Fast, easy and a great allrounder. Excellent in the chop and gybes tight and fast. Great board if you have something bigger for the lighter stuff. Great board for a medium weight sailor as middle or small board.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Carl
Nebs geeze the 86 must be very close for 15-30 knots like ya say touch sinky though.
Im about the same weight as you and 15 just ok with the 6.8.
Havnt sailed the 94 but it well get ya planning earlier but top wind limit you would be pushing it sailing in 30knots depending on water conditions.
whats you next board up.
ta Vando
I only sold mine because my shop no longer sells *board and I wanted to promote their products. Nothing against *board, they make a great product.
Carl, have you sold yours?
Thanks for the replies.
I'm hoping to have a three board quiver:
Light wind flat/waves: Decrep Custom 125 litre yellow 'lemony snicketts'
Medium/high wind waves: 80l Starboard acid
Medium/high wind speed: ??? (iSonic 86/94)
The acid really sinks when the wind drops out, I'm usually up to my waist if I hit a <10knot lull. I was hoping to get a slalom board that didn't sink too much (up to knees maybe) when it really drops out. The slalom board should be capable of letting me hit a PB at Hardies, gybe well, and be comfortable enough to do 250km in a day. It should take a 6.8 and a 5.6 Loft Blade easily.
I have seen heaps of 86's around but no 94's... was just wondering if there was a reason for it or not. From the replies it looks like I'll be plonking down the cash!
Many thanks for the replies.
I took it out on sunday, and managed to drag Elmo off (never managed that before) so its all smiles from me!
Happy camper
