Qld Sailor Peter Cochran has realised his long-held dream of sailing 10,000kms in one calendar Year. He started GPSTC on 12 Feb 2013 and passed the 10,000kms mark exactly one year later on 12 Feb 2014.

I think that deserves a round of applause.
Curious. At risk of sounding negative, I really can't understand why anyone wants to do this stuff. It's legitimate branch of windsurfing certainly, and the skills are just mad, but it leaves me completely cold.
(Nice btw work Peter)

Maybe the gpstc is not the be all and end all for him, maybe speed sailing's only part of it, maybe he just sails for fun but keeps track with his GPS. I don't know or care, I'm just impressed he has had the wind and time to do what he obviously enjoys, congrats Pete and I hope you have many more K's ahead ![]()
I'm not having a go at you Barn, just saying, I wish I had the skills and conditions to sail like you, but it ain't going to happen in FNQ ![]()
I found that the spirit of gpstc is that everyone gets encouraged, whatever they chose to do. You sail to improve yourself and both team mates and other teams members give you a hand.

That is pure gold!
PS; I think the other guys missed the joke ![]()

I'll blame old age ![]()
Well done Peter,
lucky you to have a wind whole year
I can't complain on temperature on GC, is ok for whole year sailing but wind is definitely not ok.
Peter got back into sailing with some encouragement from me he was Qld champion for many years in my early days of sailing I looked up to him as many people did he run & owned Windaction Sailboards on the Gold Coast.
He in fact got many of us around Wello & the GC into speed as he was always the fastest so many of us would always chase him & his brother Ian around the bay trying to keep up or beat them this was fun on the old Windaction boards & Aerotech sails man has the gear changed Peter has come back after 13 years off the water in style the whole GPS thing has got him interested in the sport again as it has with many of us.
Expect more from Peter as he don't like being in second place his very competitive, age is catching up with him a bit but his still got it.
Well done Peter but the big Ks is too boring for me.
Massive Effort Peter - I have only managed 1500ks in 18months!
Good to see you back into the sport again Peter - I owned several of your boards, mostly waveboards, but I also had a carbon slalom board back in the early nineties - damn that thing was fast for it's time.
Funny bloke Barn! You don't miss a thing.
well done man, 10,000 in a year is a great effort,,, were you plainning for most of that? Ha, we love pumping out k's were we sail, we find inspiraration from kato and more local, micheal thompson,,, it looks like we will now hold you in high regard as well, good luck with it all man
Well done Pete, and look forward to your next 10000 ks.
Agree with your comments Glynn.
WindAction played are good part in servicing windsurfers in SeQld .
You passion for the sport and knowledge of board design has contributed to many great days on
the water for many people.
Some of the best boards around were your WindAction custom boards in those days.
Havent times changed and custom boards almost disappeared.
Would be real interesting to know if boards are any quicker now than on those custom boards back then.?
Who would have ever thought after all those hours on the water back then that we would ever be using gps to track those sessions.
Interesting to think how many hours were actually clocked back then, the mind boggles.
Good to see the passion is back again.
Cheers
