Just broke another batten bucket on my V8, its the second time I,ve broken it and this time it snaped the batten end.At $80 a pop to fix I,m sick of getting it fixed.I,ve only used it 14 times since new on the right mast, with all the right settings, but the bottom cam/batten seems to always have too much curve on it at the point where the batten leaves the cam. Has any one else had this problem with this model? or got a cause/solution for my problem.
I feel your pain Kato. Had a 05 V6. Got it second hand. The bottom two batterns broke twice. After the 3rd time i traded it. best thing i ever did
Sorry Kato can't help u with that one, I have a 7m V8 06 used it heaps and have had no problems. I will ask one of the bay sailors I know, he has been using V8's for years, will get back to u.
you can order from your dealer battens for that particular sail from NP and they will send you a few inexpensively, just make sure you measure from tip to tip..i have broken a lot and have mostly repaired them..as for the rod that meets the tapered end to the cams usually it'll be off a few cm.'s or an inch or two but better than none..if the tip is stuck inside the cam make a small incision about 2cm and pull that one out with a long nose plier...![]()
Thanks for the replies.Got the batten out no problems, the broken end disapeared with the plastic bucket. As to replacing the plastic bit,not easy. NP have rivited it to the sail so it means that it has to go to Melbourne (4hr round trip.)I,m going to try using the KA method with the cam to fix the problem untill I get it fixed . Jerry any hints would be great
Hi Kato,
The new plastic bits from Pryde can be just screwed on. All you have to do if drill out the old rivets and you've saved yourself a 4 hour drive. SHQ should be able to post them on out to you pretty easily. If not give me a shout.
Cheers,
Sam.
