Hello all you budding speedsailors,

The Thommen 1 GPS Team Challenge website is now up and running. You can visit it at:
www.gpsteamchallenge.com

If you are a team captain, then you will shortly receive an email inviting you to register your details online. Once this is done, you will be able to post your sessions.

The normal format for a day's sailing is:
1) Go sailing with your team, all with your own GPS's.
2) Download the data, and figure out your numbers for all 6 categories.
3) Email these numbers to your team captain.
4) The captain will then enter the details into the website.

You have 7 days to enter a session, but remember that the first team to post in every month gets bragging rights, because suddenly that state comes out on top. I envisage a bit of friendly rivalry developing between the different states, which is all good fun

Many thanks go out to Laurie at Seabreeze, for being so helpful and generally a great guy. Thanks also to our other sponsors - Gybesports
http://www.gybesports.com.au/ for providing such excellent prizes, as well as WindWarrior and GPS-Speedsurfing.

Enjoy, and please let me know if you have any ideas on how to improve the competition.

Agreed hardie, this is fantastic, it just goes to show what can be done, by interested enthusiastic people for no monetary gain.

Nebs I've sent you a test message, on your contacts page, if you don't get it please contact me, I've made a couple of suggestions I'd like you to see.

Thanks guys,

It was a lot of fun writing it, and I see that the SA Artheads wasted absolutely no time in posting their results...

So South Australia is now winning the championships! Well done!

And what I forgot to say was that this was all done with everybody spread across and up and down Aus.
No meetings at a central location, just worked it out via electronic media in such a short space of time Stunned the crap out of me

Nebbs and Hardie
Thou art Gurus of the public (speed people) interest!!
Your efforts here are to be commended by all - this will be a global example of how civilized and technologically advanced we are here in Australia and how into our sport we are.
You have done us all a great favour.
Bravo!!!
Thanks guys

Thanx for the compliments.......... Though, the website has to be Ben's moment........., he's done a brilliant job!!!!!!!

The SA Artheads have thrown the challenge down, Bender and I got some gps speeds down today, for Mandurah Mob, yet to download, but in 12 to 18 knots, best we could manage was high 20's, though we may have have reasonable NM's and 1 hours. Decrep sailed, but with a GPS that doesn't have data download capabilities, he's just getting used to everything at the moment, has the potential to be australia's fastest senior grandmaster!! Good to have 25 down from SRM, but eqipment and conditions didn't suit him.

Thanks fellas

Team SEQ recorded some very good speeds today, once the data is sent to me I'll upload it for all to see.

I have to say a big Thank You to Hardie for having the vision of how this could unfold, and getting it off the ground. There are many, many people on the internet willing to criticise others, and very very few people like him who are willing to step out on a limb and spread their wings.

Well done mate, and let's make this competition fun, fair, and good for everyone.
Like there was ever any doubt

Yeah, power to the people, (windsurfing type), and power to seabreeze.

I knew the net was powerful, but this really brings it home, just what can be accomplished.

No wonder microsoft is nervous of the open source movement.

Been checking out the website...oustanding effort from all involved!

Also good to see some session data making it's way on there.

It would be good to see the teams using the comment section on the session page to give us a bit of background on the day...wind & chop conditions, tides, overcast / sunny etc etc. Just adds a bit of colour and context to what is otherwise several rows of numbers.

I suppose the form for posting session data could be modified to encourage this sort of input, but we don't want to make it too onerous to log session data

Looking forward to getting some scores in their for the Wozzies!
