I have made my mind up on going to San Juan provance in particular Cuesta Del Viento from Buenos Aires in Dec, Flight is expensive so I have been told to get a bus into rodeo or mendoza but not too sure exactly how to get there. It seems like a undiscovered spot so i thought i´d ask.
if you speak spanish , no worries , it'll be fine, otherwise,
, I haven't been there but I've travelled around south america and my advice...go for the sure thing, don't risk your life or gear.
Hi Starboarder!
I'm from Argentina, I live in "Santa Rosa - Provincia de La Pampa", 1030 Km from "Cuesta del Viento" and I usually go every year to that amazing spot.
"Cuesta del Viento" is a lake located 1600 meters over the sea level in between of "Cordillera de los Andes", Rodeo is the town next to the lake. Is a very quiet little town with no risk at all (except for the radical windsurf!!!) ![]()
The wind season is from october-november to march-april, the winds blows 25-50 knots every day!!! The rest of the year is not so consistent and is too cold.
My advice is that, if you are in Buenos Aires, you should get a plane or bus (depend of your budget) to San Juan city (capital of "Provincia de San Juan") next 200 Km from Rodeo. Previously you must be arranged with Franco Lamanuzzi, Felipe Lamanuzzi or Mariano Pecora (owners of the Goya Rental) to someone pick you up in San Juan and take you to Rodeo (there isn't good public transport for this last trip) and they also could find you some place to stay (hotel, hostel, bungalow, that depend of your budget too).
If you want more information visit "www.guarderiapuertodepalos.com" or write an e-mail to marianpecora@yahoo.com (you can write in english or spanish).
Mariano live half off the year in Maui (during the winter in Argentina) and the other half between Buenos Aires and Cuesta del Viento.
In december of 2005 Kauli Seady was invited to Cuesta del Viento

and in 2004 Francisco Goya

If you are a windsurfer and you come to Argentina, you must to know "Cuesta del Viento"!!!
