Hi just after some advice - i finally attached a windsurf rig to my SUP ( fanatic all wave 9' (150L) ) but didn't change my original thruster fins which are 5" Futures fins. Upwind was hard and as soon as I got planing I suffered from horrid spinout, what fins should I be using, Thanks

Really big fins.....sorry for stating the obvious also downhaul your sail a lot Sup's have a lot of rocker and don't plane early. hope that helps.

You certainly need bigger fins for sailing with a windsup.

With my Fanatic Fly 10'6 (177lts), I tend to use either a 9'5" fin, or a 8'5" in the tri-fin setup.

Even so, going upwind at anything below 10 knots is quite difficult.

PS. I usually sail out at 4-5bft with a 5.5 sail.

Hope this helps, best regards

Pretty much the only way to go upwind in light winds with a windSUP is to buy one with a centre fin. I think my 11'6 BIC has a 10" fin in the middle at the back and I've also put in some big FCS side fins to try to get it to hang on when not using the centre fin ie downwind catching swells.

It looks a little freaky but I get my 10 6 fanatic fly upwind with windward rail depressed a heap.

Trouble is they slow right down when they're not nice and flat/level, buying a windSUP with a swing down centreboard is the game changer.

Hey, sounds like we are sailing the same board!

May I ask what conditions are you sailing it in? I find its sweet spot at around 15-20 knots, using a 5.5 sail, where I bring it at near-planing speed. Happy to hear any other experience as well.

Add all 5 fins.
Have a finbox installed centered near tail that can handle a low aspect 10" fin.
