Hi
been out of it a while (since the boards got shorter and fatter). I have started sailing on a JP 84L slalom board with a 5.8 and 6.7 NP RS Slalom and need some advice on size/length of a suitable weed fin specifically suited to down wind, ledge to lancelin type sailing.
any advice would be appreciated.
cheers

What vintage 84?
I have a JP84 slalom III that I use a 29cm weed fin made from a JP 42 slalom fin reboxed. I sail it with a Koncept 5.8 and for square sailing it is great. At Cervantes broad off the wind the other weekend it was not good through the rolling chop on the downwinder. I am about 75kg.
I would suggest a bigger board for LOC unless it is howling. If it is your only option I would go at least a 32cm try a JP freeride 31 or a choco

I was using an 84L Exocet Compact Move on the weekend with a 5.9 & 6.6 sail.
Used a Choco Weed Speed 28cm with the 5.9 & 31cm JP Weedy with the 6.6.
Both worked great & I was going off the wind in the ocean swell trying for speed.
Consistent 28kn runs with the 6.6

thanks lao and paul
I'm also 75-80kg. my JP is the mark 1 I think, 2006. unfortunately the 84L is my only racing option, I know the breeze is a lot lighter down in lancelin. I also have a 74L JP real world wave wave board which is my regular ride while the 84L is my light wind option up here (I live between Dongara and Geraldton).
