hi Gestalt, I was at Snapper the last 3 days at the Quiky pro, the southerly doesnt really get into that section there, its a bit more offshore what does get in past the headland, buildings etc, the waves were awesome, but not much wind unless you were beyond the point. The ocean where the quiksilver was, was glassy most of the time, but 50 metres away in the ocean it was white capping.
Amazing surf though! The lads in the comp were pulling amazing barrel rides, great spectator sport!
yeah but don't tell vando
he doesn't know it's in a wind shadow. [}:)]
that would of been great to watch.
was there any action at duranbah. there is a reef out from duranbah that is cross shore in a SE. i've seen windsurfers sailing it in the past.
oh for sure around the corner at Dbah would have been good!
Ive never sailed there, but Ive spoken to a few guys that have, it definetly gets the southerlies!
Mate the surfing was insane, I have never seen a full blown pro comp before, got to watch Slater hit a perfect 10 the other day, today with only 10 minutes left in his heat, Mick Fanning had to get a dual wave score of 19.1 to make the finals, his next 2 waves were over 9.5's moving him to the semi against Taj.
Super cool atmosphere, big waves, big crowd, just awesome!
The waves in your pic are closer to Greenmount by about 100m, and it was truly a great sight to see those sets rolling in! As you would know a picture doesnt give the true image justice!
Next year, if you live in Qld, get your backside down and watch these guys, its awesome.
i saw some of it on the news. looked awesome. how lucky to get those conditions.
p.s. i can't take credit for the pic.
