Hello boys,
Looking at getting back into windsurfing and therefore building a set on a tight budget (around 800 - 1000)
I am quite light with 65kg, got a beginner + / intermediate level. Still no waterstart, but confident it will work out after a few sessions.
So far I am targeting a board around 120L and a sail between 4.8 and 5.5
I currently have 2 boards under my radar:
JP Australia X-Cite Ride FWS 120 - 2007
www.denic.de/service/transit/informationsseite/
AHD Maxx Ride DRT 64.5 (the one I have seen is advertized for 122L and 2004, but did not find more info than the link below)
www.denic.de/service/transit/informationsseite/Need
=> I did read something about the shape of the hull being a bit special
Both are in pretty good conditions
Any big difference between those two?
How much would you pay for them?
Will post further down the track more questions for gear recommendations!
Thanks for your help!
My money would be on the JP X-Cite Ride
at 2007, should pay no more than $400 depending on condition
2 sails at 5m ($150) and 5.5m ($150) should get them on the same mast ($100) so no need for 2 masts = save $$
Should be able to pick up the boom and extension/base pretty cheap. ask around most guys have got heaps to give away for a couple of beers.
What conditions are you sailing in? The sail size may depend upon the amount of wind you will be comfortable with. My intermediate kit used a 5.7 and 6.7 sail. Bothe fit on the same size mast but you do need chose the right size extension.
Like Mark suggests it depends on the wind. 4.8 is pretty small even for 65kg if you are sailing I sub 20kts. Certainly do a bit of research so you can use 2 sails with the same mast, you will be thankful later on. I built my quiver on 2nd hand gear, good quality stuff comes up regularly.Happy Sailing.
Thanks guy.
It's to sail in Melbourne's bay, mostly summer southerlies winds, usually between 17 and 25 knots.
probably going to end up getting a 5.5 and something smaller for 25+ winds... will depend if I progress enough to get out in 25knots I guess :-)

I'm 65kgs and do GPS -( intermediate + ) so I tend to use larger sails than you would but a 4.8m would be for prob 20kts - 23kts in chop for me.( comfortable to powered up sailing). That's Lake sailing though in c 1-3'chop.
I concur, I am around 70kg's and a 5.0 is plenty big enough for me to just get planning in >16 knots. Once it gets up to around 22-23 knots I can easily plane on my 4.5m. Being in Melb, our average seabreezes are around 15-20 so I wouldn't go any bigger than 5.5m with you being only 65kg's, in fact you will also want a smaller sail, something like a 4.7 to get you on the water in most conditions.
Thanks for your comments, picked up some gear today, more there:

Congrats, Looks like you're all set for summer.
have some one show you how to rig the sail or follow the recommendations on the sail. The newer gear will give you a great range when set up well. In the photo it looks like you may need some more downhaul and less outhaul. You want to have some shape in the sail below the boom and twisting off up top. Enjoy your new ride!
Thanks Waiting 4Wind, those were the sellers pictures, I agree, the rig was not set properly, I should be able to do a better job! But good advise are always welcome, especially after so many years away from the sport...
Hi all I hope you don't mind me adding onto this thread with a query of my own.
Firstly last summer I got back into windsurfing after a 20 year hiatus & I've found this forum both really informative & very entertaining
I'm looking at upgrading a bit of gear for summer for using down Albany way (WA), for just general blasting around. FWIW I weigh about 70kg & have no problems with getting in the harness & straps just working on my gybes (make 1 in 3) & waterstarts.
I've currently got a Mistral Screamer II 104l that I use as my light wind board & a 80l Starboard Acid as my high wind board. I'm looking for something inbetween those & was thinking lowish 90l fsw type board or even a 2012 95l Rocket that I see is for sale. Board will only be 2nd hand at this stage.
Sailwise I've currently have a 2009 7.5m Severne Glide & an old 6.7m Gaastra MC 2x 1995 vintage! both run on a 460 mast as well as a an old nearly knackered 5.5m Gaastra 2x. Then I have a NP 5.5m V8 with mast, sail is old but in pretty good nick & for higher winds a 2012 5m Gaastra Manic as well as a couple of 2009 Kaos 4.7m & 4.2m.
So what I want to do is end up with a board & rig set up that's really good for around the 14-20 knot range. At this stage I'm thinking of a new Ezzy 430 mast & a sail to match that. Would I be better to go for a larger sail like a 6.5m Cheetah or Legacy & then maybe down the track look at a 5.8/5.5m Tiger or 5.5m Cheetah or go the reverse? The other option would be to go for something like the Cheetah 6m or 6.3/6.0/5.8m Tiger & buy a larger sail to replace the 6.7m Gaastra.
I'm using Ezzy as the example as there is currently a sale on & general consensus seems to be that their gear is good quality & the CC masts can be used with a fair few other brands.
Sorry if the posts a bit long but I thought the more info I put in the better. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer
