The Gators like dam good, I am sure they would feel good on the water as well.

The 'drop' boom is a good idea.
I did it 20 years ago when I built my first hobby sail.
The boom length remains relatively short even though the clew length increases (on the larger sizes).
'Short' booms are stiffer booms.
Stiff is good, we all know that.
