I have a staysail on my foredeck, on a Profurl with a wishbone boom, sheeted directly to the foredeck in front of the mast. No tracks, barber haulers, or other junk littering the foredeck. It is a controlled docile arrangement, and I can use the wishbone as a handrail, if I need to go forward. On or off the wind, it works very well. Has anybody else found a good method of taking the violence away from a boomed foredeck, while under sail. I am interested in any variations to my system.

Thats the big con of a boom on a staysail, it can swat you off the deck if it gybes or swings. You can rig a preventer similar to a main or furl it when you are going forward or change course closer to the wind. I sail a sloop and when I need to go forward when sailing off the wind I often furl the genoa up all the way or enough so that it's above my head and mellow. For my main I have permanently rigged a preventer line on each side, I use the leeward as a preventer and the windward one as a pole downhaul.

Arrh and Eye the pirates alphabet! While not a foreign language blow boats terminology never ends and can be confusing. This should probably be posted on the sailing page.

In reply to utcminusfour, the whole point of my post is that my staysail arrangement, when tightly sheeted, is unable to move at all, and as I state, the wishbone is a safe foredeck handrail in any wind. The furling line and sheet control, it completely.

Yes, Pirate talk
A lot of windsurfers have a sailing background and to be honest at one stage I hadn't been on a sailing boat for 8 years. Then racing on boats mates had designed or built. Still sail on mates 28ft cat and blast along.
At one stage racing we had all windsurfing crew, so sails were back sail, white front sail and colored front sail. We didn't really fit in but as long as you're racing for the win.

Climb cutting will produce a better finish but if you push too hard all hell will break loose.
