Ok guys i have ordered some new twist lock clips for my large NP boom as the old ones are slipping and even using a rubber "o" ring is not working anymore.

I have ordered some Fibersapr one as i have been told they will fit. The kit comes with glue.

My question is,

What the best way to get the old ones off?

heat?
cut them off?

If anyone has done this before i would love to hear some tips and what not to do.

Thanks in advance

Bender

If they are epoxied on you can boil it for a minute or so and the epoxy will soften just enough to pull them off

If they used CA (superglue) it won't soften with heat but CA remover works great - you can get it from the hobby shop it is basically acetone based I think

Thanks for the tips guys. I put the new ones on tonight.

In the end i just cut the old ones off (only lost 25mm off the boom length).

The push on half fitted very tight so i have just pushed then on. i did'nt use the glue supplied as they wont budge.

Take it from me.... they will come loose eventually, so don’t throw the glue away
Have done a few NP and Fibrespar changes, that’s why I know they come loose after a while if you don't glue on

When you go to glue just rough sand the ends to about 75% down from end contact surface, mix the glue and slide on the new ends. Make sure you don’t have any glue run out in a lump on the inside, otherwise the tail wont slide in afterwards.
Be careful with the new tangs, they will break if you side load them too much when re-inserting the tail piece, as they are a bit brittle when new

Can somebody please give some pointers about where to order a replacment kit? I can't seem to find it with Google. I have been struggling with my boom for the last couple of weeks, duct tape and stuff, it is a pain.

Hi, Lipi,

Suggest you try Kevin Ozee at NeilPryde Maui, who seems to keep a good stock of Neil Pryde parts. Try sending an email using their "Contact Us" facility.

Here's the link: www.neilprydemaui.com/

Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

First of all thanks to all other contributors and their comments - very useful. I've ordered my replacement kit through www.surfsailaustralia.com.au, which is easy as even if you order in NZ. One more tip when replacing these - my boom had only one side not working anymore and through trial and error I figured that it's actually only one particular twist lock that's loose and not the glued-on parts. So when the new kit arrrived I simply changed the 2 loose locks and immediately you can feel how much tigher it locks - takes all of 1 minute and worth a try before you replace/cut the glued-on parts. Happy sailing.
