Hi,

Im just wondering how to go about repairing a 2004 mistral ASA constructed board.

My mate got catapulted, damaged the nose and creased the full width across the board on the bottom about 400mm from the nose.

The layup looks like a polystrene core, layer of glass then a plastic coating around the whole lot.

Thinking of repairing it like this:
Grind off plastic skin around damaged area
Grind out damaged glass etc
Re glass with epoxy, ensure I have good overlap with existing glass.

My only concern is doing the fill and fair coat over the glass to blend into the plastic skin. Will the epoxy bond to the plastic?

Any help would be appreciated?

cheers

I did one of those recently, but haven't seen the board since, so I've no idea how the epoxy to plastic bond went.
In this case the damage was closer to the end of the nose, so we just cut it off.

Hopefully all the structural/tension strength is in the glass, and the plastic is just there for impact.
As long as you have a good overlap with the old structurally sound glass, there shouldn't be too much strain on the epoxy/plastic join.
But I make no guarantees.
Don't think you have much other choice anyway, unless somebody else knows how to get a good bond with the plastic.

Cheers, thanks Decrepit- The board will just go to the scrap heap if we dont give the repair job a go (plus it's a great chance to hone my skills)

By the way, just spent the last half hour reading on how you made Benders board on WestOzWind - awesome!
