here's a video of prentice ave sanctuary point and great for beginners looking for safe sailing on those epic days when they would normally get hammered , its a small bay and knee to waist deep from old Errol bay to wrights beach , its protected from the n/e but the wind does get in there , the first part of the vid was the day before a 25 to 30 knt southerly, the n/e was very light but steady and consistent
I launched from there in the southerly and it was hard work with a speed board and a 18cm weed fin , i ended up sailing the weed bed north of the boat ramp and needed a lift back to my van , hope you enjoy the vid
thanks mike
derryn you sail basically strait out from the ramp and don't really notice the weed beds, 100mt north of the ramp the weed is thick but with a shallow 18cm weed fin you can sail over the weed and hit some really glassy water, my second fastest time in the gps teamchallenge(gustbusters) is 36.86 and that's with a lot of time on the water at primbee![]()
ps just remember the gustbusters when your signing up for a team for the westerly's next year ![]()
Hi keef, thanks for the invite to join the best team, I'll have a look into a GPS for a new Christmas toy
Nice vid. Can one get away without a weed fin there?
GusTee yes you do need a weed fin to sail behind the weed bed , the problem is you only get short runs and you have to have a fin that will handle chop, with your normal weed fin say 26cm you feel the board slowing down because the fin is deeper and going through the weed rather than going over it , if your into flat water sailing there arnt to many places that will match it![]()
dezza you will enjoy the gps team challenge, at first its all about improving your speed and the other 5 categories we sail, the fun part is meeting and sailing with bunch of great guys ,
arkim is doing a great job with the kids and we will soon have josh signed up giving us 4 kids under 13, Rhys nailed another 3 PB's today, thats a ranking of 11th place overall in the competition international after only 12 sailing days ,Alex is overall 3rd internationaly and equal 1st in aus , Elli hasn't been well so hasn't sailed this season , she is 2nd overall in both aus and international, those times are when she was 7, its great being a gustbuster and watching these kids progress ![]()
took a look at prentice ave today wind n/e 20to25knts, this place is for the raw beginner and still be able to sail in 25knts
the wind is offshore and knee deep up to the entrance, so no daggar board
i haven't seen anyone sail here at all, but for a learner theres no chop , if you get blown down wind you just walk it back
it could be a bit gusty but would still be better than most learning spots on the east coast
after sailing a few times at this place your ready for the boat ramp around the corner at sanctuary point, you can sail out 500mt and still stand up
if anyone wants to give it a try leave a comment on this post so other newbee's can either give i a go or a wide birth,
