jeez you got to be joking doggy. I used to s#*t myself surfing down at scabs when you hear the clatter of a windsurfer coming towards you and not being able to see it

Mate I have surfed down there for years, windsurfers are no problem. I think they can see you easier or they know were you are and dont get close. I have never worried about them like I do with kiters, who seem not to be looking where they are going.

Yeah , I think the person that got killed by a windsurfer on Bondi Beach many moons ago might be scared of them.

Hey lotofwind, you've made this reference a couple of times. I've never heard of this incident before, and have only be made aware of it as you have raised it in these forums.

Can you provide any more details, as my Google searches came up with nothing.

It was back before internet days when windsurfing was in its hey day.
Was the reason wind powered crafts were banned at Bondi. Not that you would want to sail there anyway.

Are wind powered craft banned at Bondi? Also there should be some reference to a fatality involving a windsurfer at Bondi even if happened back in the 80s. I was keen on windsurfing back then and bought the Aussie magazines. I never read or heard of a fatality due to a windsurfer at Bondi.

Funny, I can find all sort of stuff on the Internet from before the Internet. Surely you can find old newspaper entries if that was a fact. I lived in Centennial Park most of the 80s and 90s and never heard of what you're saying.

So... ?

Although the Internet is recent, a great deal historical stuff has been uploaded, almost to the extent that the Internet is becoming a library of info for the last 80 years or so.

Be that as it may, people still windsurf at Bondi, as can be seen by this recent thread:

Totally agree.

But you need to be able to back up statements such as "a windsurfer killed someone at Bondi a long time ago"

Cheers

An old windjunkie mate, local bondi boy from before even your guys time, maybe, use to have the old yellowed newspaper article pinned to his wall.
Thought the article was funny cause title said "Call for windsports to be banned at Bondi after fatality" .

I think Bloodfly got a lot more posts here than he ever would of got on the kite forum.

I'm going to get the missus to video me swapping from sailboard to kite and back to sailboard and back to kite and post it here just to see how much abuse I can attract. If I do this it will be an indication I've given up trying to gain anything serious in this site.

I will be using the same harness. Why is a harness connected to a kite a nappy when its the same thing as a sail harness.

^^^ irrelevant ..... he got bagged because it is yet another post in the wrong area by a kiter

....followed by kiters' responses, in which they spell "kiting" incorrectly. Kinda makes it a target rich environment for windsurfers' p!sstakes huh ....

I can't imagine they could see you any better than a kiter could plus kiters aren't going as fast and are heaps more manoeuvrable. I never got hit but never knew if they were aware of me in the water cos I had no idea where they were could just here them closing in on me. It could maybe more that you don't trust the hundreds that are taking up kiting as their first water sport on the ocean.

Much more you can do, how so? From my perspective when you compare wave and freestyle windsurfing to the kite equivalent's it's chalk and cheese. The amount of variety (in terms of different moves) in windsurfing wave/FS these days is ridiculous; conversely there's only so many different ways you can spin hanging from a rope. The differentiation being that the difficulty in learning even the basic freestyle windsurfing moves is that high, you don't see them very often 'out in the wild', let alone every random local punter making a video featuring them.

Definitely easier to make money out of "kiters" its almost the perfect consumer item. Highly visible, the punters needs lessons, the kites and boards are kind of disposable....and much more can you do?

Agreed, I use to love my old beat up 1976 holden , in my humble beginings as a road user, and still respect the old girl.
But wont drive the slow, less manoverable old beast anymore, as the newer models are way better.
Dont know what that has to do with windsufing though.
