i tried a one legged chop hop today. it had a very unexpected outcome. can anyone offer some help.
i launched and removed my front foot from the strap
as soon as my foot left the board the nose of the board plumeted straight down resulting in a nose first decent and a crash with me hitting the mast with my ribs.
ouch. no damage done though.
i was surprised at how fast the nose dropped. as soon as i removed my foot it was curtains.![]()

cheers for any tips.
Don't pull any foot out in the air!!!
You can break stuff like that, mainly knees, all the load can go on one knee at an awkward angle when you land.
Start learning the move with your front foot next to, not in, the strap? Then you won't have to remove it, just stick it out all cool like (don't forget to pull a face).
I reckon as you pulled it out, you accidentally oversheeted and drove the nose down with mastfoot pressure.
I thought you were working?? Serves you right.....
I'm in recovery mode at the moment that's why I haven't been down for a week or so, good wind at the moment too!!!
Cheers - Greg
saw robby swift do this on a 113 or 130 jp slalom in flatwater as he launched and pulled out his front he seemed to lean forward and open sail and the opposite as he was returning his foot..really a cool move to watch out of the blue..
cheers guys, i'll try not to oversheet next time. prob right with that cause i do land nose first on most of my jumps. i must admit, even though decrepit is right and i shouldn't try it i can't help myself.
i never intended on doing it but jinxy was (local funny man) has been egging me on. i enjoy sailing with him. so i did a jump in front of him and while in the air thought, hey why not take me front foot out.
hey gregwed,
well i was supposed to be working but got held up so i packed the gear and went to VP instead. only sailed for an hour, it was great, the swell was at a good angle and steep and the wind really constant. about 5 of us were out.
i didn't know you were laid up? all good?
Why call it a chop "hop" in the first place?
We usually hop on one leg, right?
And now it's confused poor Gestalt...
sheet in hard, hey presto, foward loop, learn 2 tricks at once, my mate years ago, was learning one handed jumps, took his front hand off, the sail sheeted in buy itself, he hang on to it, his first ever foward was a one handed one..
