non constant wind at yorkeys

why is it 5 to 10 at yorkeys knob when it is blowing 25 to 30 at green island. this is why i much prefer to sail at 4 mile or wonga beach (depending on tide)

False Cape.

Massive wind shadow given the height and length of the point for the SE to claw its way over. You tend to find it gets better the further north you go from Cairns (smaller wind shadows like Double Island aside).

In fact, take it to its extreme and try Cooktown if you get the chance. Stronger again than Green Island but pack the croc repellant.
