goin to buy a new board.i weigh 110kg.im want a board were it will last me a few years .im thinking the viper85 or the starboard go or the starboard rio or the jp funster.still learning but i dont want to buy a new board in 6 months when i get better. thanks
Hopefully some 110kg intermediates can pipe up and suggest. I'm far lighter than you, so my advice won't be that optimal. The last point you made is always going to be a risk, but if you are like 90% of sailors, you are going to be buying and selling a lot of gear in the first few years in order to work out what works and what doesn't, and this will change over time when you first start as your style will start to develop. Everybody is different. The danger is you getting too ambitious and buying something too small, having a few goes then giving the sport up for good.
As a 110kg learner, I bought a 165lt JP xcite ride. Great board and I quickly progressed to smaller boards and sold it for a reasonable price. If you go with any of the big beginner boards - you'll progress a bit slower imo. The upside is that they will hold their value and you will enjoy learning on them... the downside is that once you move to a smaller (higher performance) board, your technique will need to adjust to suit the different style of board.
