Looks like the nw? part of the island is best for sailing, but can you guys give me your personal experiences pls. I'm staying at the Hyatt on the opposite side. I also want to surf, but I'll surf anything I see that looks remotely possible. Keen to sail calm waters not waves though. Cheers.

Kihei has flat water sailing. Kanaha has a wide area between the beach and the reef that is wave free. The waves on the reef at Kanaha lowers are usually pretty mellow unless there is a massive swell running.

I think the Schweitzer's are on the Kaanapali side of Maui for surfboard, SUP and windsurf rentals:

Thanks for the link.... $200 for 1 weeks gear hire is sweet. Im going to take a couple of surfboards, but sailing gear would be crazy.

Ive read parking can be a nightmare... true? What have you guys done?

BTW... a few months ago a chick I went to highschool with 20 years ago posted, on facebook, a bunch of photos and everyones life ambition from our Yr10 leaving books (you know, that everone signs etc)... apparently my life ambition was to sail at Hookipa Beach Park.... guess Im finally going to do it :)

Cheers again guys.
