Whats the most you can cut down a masts without affecting the bend curve .be told only the bottom can be taken off.its a 520 c.c mast ![]()

Not sure .about that answer ..not many do it .because your not meant to do it ...but a mate cut 100 ml off ..seems to work ok .
trade it in for a smaller one is another idea .
Wouldn't cut more than 150mm, from the base, as there is the question of the diameter of the extension and also the boom reinforcement area that will go down.
Bend curve will remain unchanged.
I wouldn't do it unless you're a heavy bloke.
The curve may remain close to spec but longer masts are stiffer than shorter ones. That doesn't change.

Thanks everyone the problem is the mast is 100% carbon near new the sail spec is 516cm luff l took collar off extension still cant get downhaul spec .only going to chop 6cm off .
Should be cool ...that s nothing really ..tape around the mast before cutting it will stop it splintering up the mast it probably won't ,but its worth doing just incase ..

I nearly did the same once, I had a 530, and old code red 9m, never touched the mast, glad I left it alone. It was about 15cm too long.
Can you at least rig it with the excess extension, you might find the tension too extreme and the mast just snaps. Those big masts and race sails especially some brands at certain model years push the boundaries a little.
Almost new 100% mast sounds expensive. Nobody will want to buy a cut mast from you later...
Buy a cheap 75% mast that works, or cut a cheaper one?
